This helped me so much! All I knew was to start the coming Sunday once my cycle came but wasn’t sure to take the sugar pills or if to continue another pack right away. I've tried the pill (don't remember the brand) but I became EXTREMELY depressed. I also became prego + miscarriage at 4 weeks. So yeah. It wasn't a good first try AT ALL. I'm about to start a different brand this month. I'm excited and hoping for the best. To help with ovarian cysts and help with my cystic acne. Fingers crossed for me ladies!! I'm so apprehensive! Also! Thank you for this very informative way to take them! I feel more confident about taking them.

Nah I can relate. I started taking it bc of my period pains & to get rid of acne & after some months I started breaking out again even though my acne had gone away. I got on a heavier pill & now Im breaking out more but this is my first pack so I just have high hopes and trying to have patience with my own hormones. Hopefully my hormones even out veryy soon & I stop breaking out. One of the major symptoms I got from taking the pill (my before pack) was being SUPER moody & lowkey a little depressed. I also got water retention but stayed the same weight. I hope this new pill works for me loordd😭 I started bleeding out and at the verge of becoming anemic so I have to stay on the pill even if I dont want to 🫠

Hi Loushayne. You can start taking the pill after you finish your menstrual cycle but make sure you are not pregnant (take a test) and just know that starting the pill now can result in irregular bleeding for the next few months. Taking your pills every day on time will give you 90% effective birth control. Other methods like the IUD are 99.8% effective and 'no hassle'! ~Dr. Lewis

From my understanding: You can start the pills whenever you want. Immediately if you’d like (just remember that if you don’t start them on your period, wait 7 days to make sure you’re protected). The point of the pills is to simulate menstruation, where the sugar pills become your uterine shedding. Even though you CAN start whenever you please, some people like their weekends period-free and sync up their pills with a “sunday start” so then when they’re taking sugar pills, it’s during the weekday and not the weekend. Someone correct me if I’m wrong 😭!!!

Shaira Khan not all pills are the same, and the serious side effects are rare UNLESS you have a family history of them. If it’s not working for you, just ask for another brand with another combination of ingredients more suited to you 😊

its a pill that is changing your entire hormonal cycle, there will be side effects everywhere. I'm way less moody on a pill but gain a ton of weight, its different for my friend who doesn't gain any weight but breaks out with acne all over.

Hi!! I'm sorry this is to late, Abercrombie! Once you start a pack, stay on that schedule! Once you are on the pill, stay on the schedule no matter your bleeding schedule. If they do not coincide in a few months, call your doctor!

Hi chokotora - thank you for the kind words....I usually tell people to wait at least a week. The pill's effectiveness is 90% or so (1 in 10 people still get pregnant.) If you want something even stronger, its an IUD (intrauterine device) or the implant in the arm (Nexplanon.) These are major more effective than the pill and you don't have to remember anything. Just FYI. I did a video on 'the best birth control'. I'm not the greatest in the video, but I hope I give good stats. thanks.

Hi all - I have been reluctant to answer questions on line as it is probably best to get answers from the person who gave you the prescription....but: 1. If you start the pill without waiting for your period, then you have a higher chance to bleed at odd times for a few months before you get on track with the pill pack. You need to take a pill each day no matter what comes out (or doesn't, if you are on your sugar pills and nothing comes out) and just start the next pack of pills. You will have birth control effects after a few weeks, but I didn't recommend this way to start the pill because of the bleeding issues. 2. Bleeding IS A SIGN OF PREGNANCY - so if you start bleeding at an odd time, you should check a few pregnancy tests in that month just to be sure. 3. If the dosage of the pill isn't right for you, then you probably will notice side effects like acne or breast tenderness that won't go away - talk to your doc/nurse and see what they think. 4. Lastly - remember, once you start the pill pack - stay on the pack cycle. Take a pill each day whether you bleed or not and give it a few months to 'settle in'. IF you keep changing the day you start a new pack, you will not only increase your chance to get pregnant, you will probably have strange bleeding for a longer time period. I hope I am explaining ok! Hi thank you for your informative video! My wife and I are in China and it's difficult to get clear answers here. We are curious when we can have unprotected sex in relation to starting the pill each month. She started the pill (Yaz 21 pack) for the very first time last month on the first day of her period (Thursday). Today was the first day (Thursday) of her second pack (after waiting the 7 day break). We have read that it takes 7 days after starting the pill for it to be effective, however we can't tell if that means starting the pill for the very first time (meaning last month) or if that means seven days after taking the pill each month? Michelle Yor mom they do as long as you take them everyday. The sugar pills give you a false periods and it keeps you in a habit of taking the pill everyday
