Worked on many of these back in the 60's n 70's. They are quite simple and yet very well made with the best materials. This was a handmade car until 74 or so. Everything is rebuildable including fuel pumps. Kits are still available for the carbs, pumps, etc.

My Ati master cylinder has developed some small rust pits in the walls and needs to be re-sleaved, It's the power break version that uses the vacuum assisted T-50 slave cylinder as well. In 1973, I had an Opel Manta. I had Sears add air conditioning to it. I took the car for a long drive on the highway, and the AC froze up, so I had Sears remove it. Back in the 70's, Sears had catalogs that you could order just about everything, similar to Amazon today.

Back in the really early days of Sears you could even order a build-it-yourself house believe it or not. I'm not old enough to know that firsthand but I heard about it.

There are pros and cons to the almost totally mechanical nature of Mercedes Benz before the mid-90s. Oil pressure gauges in the instrument cluster being actual mechanical oil pressure gauges with a full pressure feed is both. It works very well and reliably for 30-40 or even 50 years and then it drenches your best jeans and half the interior in oil. Particularly nice on a diesel at the far end of an oil change, with the oil approaching that thick goo the bulk container ships run on after heating it to 200 degrees f.

Hi JR. The Wizard just got a beautiful Peugeot 505 in that had been taken to another shop for a brake light issue and that shop didn’t know what they were doing and started cutting into the harness. Wizard told the owner he wouldn’t work on it not knowing what all the other shop did to the harness. The owner decided to give up on the car and sell it as-is. This car was a beautiful survivor prior to the other shop’s hack job. There’s probably not many people willing to save this car but it deserves to be saved and it even sounds like new wiring harnesses for this car are still available in Europe but I personally haven’t confirmed that. I really think this car deserves to be saved, you could probably easily fix the wiring issues and I think it would make great content we’d all love to see. Would you please consider going to look at the Peugeot and see if you might be able to save it?
