Hi Phil, good stuff as usual. I don't do architecture as a rule, opting for the pure landscape down here in Tucson area, been doing some studies of our local neighborhood in Oro Valley, with views of Pusch ridge in the background, just bushes and shadows with the blue mountains in the back ground, concentrating on big shapes like you say, cropping down to do a picture with three or four shapes, background, mid-ground, foreground and maybe a big shadow on a wash from a Palo Verde or Mesquite as a fourth shape. Little detail in them. Little picture too, a 6x8, and if I like it, I do a "really big one", an 8x10, which feels like "mural " to me, after doing all the little studies, LOL. Funny story about barns, I was in the Carson Valley. NV. years ago, painting with friends and I saw an old barn I wanted to paint, so I asked the guy in the yard I saw, may have been the owner of the property and I said, "I'd like your paint your barn". He said: "Yeah, I know it needs it, but I don't have the cash just now", I said: "No no, I mean paint a picture of it", then he laughs and says: "Ok, have your fun, but I've got some Real Work to do, see you later". LOL :D

Actually, I still had a job then, as a wildlife biologist, but was a "weekend painter". Good one though, and those funny experiences abound, especially whenever you are in the field painting. Bet you never heard the one, "My aunt used to paint"! LOL ;D@@philstarke.artist

I found this so informative especially since you did a painting to show how your alterations would appear. I still find editing takes a lot more thought than just painting what I see. You are providing such helpful information. Thank you!

The "x-thing" is a section of a circular bale (hay) feeder. The plastic thing is a tote for liquid storage, commonly fertilizer.
