I actually started reading the new canon books in chronological order; it actually worked pretty well in some areas, like how the Alphabet Squadron books tied nicely with the Aftermath trilogy, which then tied great to Shadow of the Sith. The books having these kinds of connections are pretty rare since new releases are so often scattered throughout the timeline, but when it works, it really really works imo
@aleclininger

Yea, I'd say that the only thing that doesn't really work for reading in chronological order is the high republic. I absolutely think Phase 1 should be read before Phase 2.
@shadowsentry2112
@shadowsentry2112 9 ай бұрын
@@aleclininger Oh yeah for sure. I actually waited until every book in each phase was out, so I could binge the whole phase, rather than jumping back and forth down the timeline. Did a Phase 1 binge, caught up on some new releases, then binged Phase 2, and I'm sure I'll do the same for Phase 3 when it's complete.

If you like Padme and want more exposition about the prequel era, I would highly recommend the Padme trilogy! Queens Shadow, Queens Peril, and Queens Hope by E.K. Johnston. They were excellent reads and told the stories of all the handmaidens. I loved reading more about women’s experiences in the Star Wars story.

It reignited my love of reading for fun and made me a huge fan of Claudia Gray. Her book Leia Princess of Alderaan is also fantastic. The first Star Wars book I ever read was Shadows of the Empire at 13, I read the novelization of A New Hope and never got around to Empire and Jedi and I did read Phantom Menace, and I really enjoyed that. Not to mention the fact that I recently got some Star Wars e-books, specifically Dark Discs all three Thrawn trilogies, And the novel involving Zhare trying to find his sister which expands on his introduction in Star Wars Rebels. There’s so much more, I picked up also, not to mention Ahsoka which is the first novel I want to get reading to get myself back into reading Star Wars books. After all these years, I’m 38 this year. You inspired me to try the audiobooks years ago and I can't thank you enough! Hundreds of hours of entertainment from them! You guys got me into the High Republic books! I'm badly dyslexic, so I tend to put off reading as much as I can, but I picked up the audiobooks over the past few months, and wow! This series might just be my favorite in SW history, I got the Heir to the Empire trilogy for Christmas. Already finished the first book and I'm a little over halfway through Dark Force Rising. Biggest takeaway so far: I already knew from Rebels that Thrawn was smart, but he's on a whole other level in these books. I love Brotherhood, Lost Stars, and Shadow of the Sith. They were so good. I picked up the new High Republic book (The Eye of Darkness) today because the way you talked about the book series made it seem super interesting!! Aftermath, Rise of The Red Blade, Thrawn, and Dark Disciple would be my top picks for books from the current canon. And again near the end of Rise of Skywalker. Great vid! Just about finished with Phase One of THR and need something like this on where to start with canon comics 👍 Disney has dropped the ball with Star Wars in a lot of ways, but the novels and comics have been incredible! I love to read and the High Republic stories and characters have been especially well-written. The old legends stuff is dope too! I seriously encourage everyone to just pick up one of the books and go Add the Aftermath books to the list from Chuck Wendig. Book 1 is good, books 2 and 3 are excellent. They form a bridge between Ep 6 and 7. I’ve been wanting more sequel stories while waiting for the Rey movie, so (in addition to some small Age of Resistance comics) I’m considering borrowing Shadows of the Sith from my local library to catch up. I got back into the novels by reading (well, listening to) the From a Certain Point of View series. They are short stories in honor of the 40th anniversary of the original trilogy, written and read by various people, and dive into the backstories and side-quests from those movies. Things that took place just off camera. They’re mostly lighthearted, although a few will make you cry…

It might not be canon, but I have to recommend Republic Commando as a great series to read if you want to get into SW books, legends or canon. Karen Traviss is a phenomenal writer, and if you like TCW, you will love this. Personally, I also think that since TBB has begun to implement Scorch into the story, reading the Rep Comm series gives you a totally unique perspective on him that makes his involvement that much more intriguing. I wouldn't be surprised if they further his character in season 3 by pulling from Traviss' novels.

I've only ever picked up Dark Discpile by Christie Golden because it was based of episodes that weren't completed for The Clone Wars. I don't find it to be crucial in understanding anything from the series unless you are a diehard Ventress fan, but is is still fantastic nonetheless. I don't know if it's a compliment or an insult to say that I wish these episodes had been animated because I would love to see them made, but everything is written so well that I could just picture how it would have been in the show. The dialogue also feels like it may have just been ripped from the scripts because even if you aren't specifically told who's talking right away, you can tell who it is. Absolutely fantastic. For more information about when this story takes place in the grand scheme of The Clone Wars, it's actually split in half by the Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir comic. My source for this is actually the old chronological list that included the Legacy project stories before they updated it to just the series itself, so if you're doing a big Clone Wars rewatch and want to include everything... - *_Seasons 1-5_* (You likely already know the Chronological order or where to get it.) - *_The Lost Missions_* (That's right, not Season 6, these 13 episodes were advertised as The Lost Missions, and I'll always call them that.) - *_The 4 Crystal Crisis on Utapua Story Reels_* (Originally on StarWars,com, these are only officially available on The Lost Missions Blu-ray, but the Internet is a place where nothing dies. Titles are: A Death on Utapau, In Search of the Crystal, Crystal Crisis, The Big Bang) - *_Dark Disciple Chapters 1-21_* (To my best approximation: 1-7 Lethal Alliance, 8-12 The Mission, 13-17 Conspirators, 18-21 Dark Disciple) - *_Son of Dathomir_* (Each issue is one episode: The Enemy of My Enemy, A Tale of Two Apprentices, Proxy War, Shadow of Dathomir) - *_Dark Disciple Chapters 22-42_* (To my best approximation: 22-25 Saving Vos Part I, 26-30 Saving Vos Part II, 31-36 Traitor, 37-42 The Path) - *_The Final Season_* (Which of course is not in order: 5-8 Ahsoka's Walkabout, 1-4 The Bad Batch, 9-12 The Siege of Mandalore)

I also was blown away by Phasma, but it's not exactly a conventional Star Wars novel. Thrawn (the "First" One) was really great. I also love the art in the comic adaptation and recommend it as a companion piece. I remember when I was starting Thrawn Alliaces I also was thinking about reading a prequel era novel and Galaxy's Edge had just opened and there was a lot of tie in material for that. I ultimately decided to go with Thrawn Alliances because I had just finished Thrawn and Thrawn Treason was about to come out, and - by the force - Thrawn Alliances not only featured a prequel era flashback narrative with Anakin, Padmé and a younger Thrawn, it was also set on Batou (the location of Galaxy's Edge for those who don't know). It was as if Zahn had written a book just for my mood at the time 😅

Do you have a video covering all the books that include people from the original trilogy? I really love those, but they are hard to find sometimes, without getting small spoilers about what the books are about. You never spoil anything in telling what they are about, so I would love a list-video like that like once a year or so? For fans of the original trilogy who are in to books, but does not care that much about them unless at least one person from the originals are in them. :D (I have read many more, I just really love the ones with original characters the most.) :)

I'd love to get into the High Republic but i find the vast, vast cast of characters so offputting. Personally, I don't think Star Wars works well with that many characters jostling for attention - I have tried to read some of the adult novels but my brain just can't cope with being expected to remember so many new names, new species and character back stories.

There are a lot of guides that can be very helpful. I find it easier to remember all the characters if you know how they look like and how they are related to other characters. And I think you also need some time to really understand the characters and not be confused with so many names. That it all becomes more familiar. But at the begining it can be very overwhelming.

Would reading literally all canon novels in chronological order be a good idea? Im kind of OCD with certain things and always need to watch/read things chronologically hahaha, so id be starting with star wars convergence. Is that a good idea?

High Republic I'd recommend reading release wise. For the test they jump around more so timeline wouldn't hurt or help

curious, what books follow luke and leia after the battle of endor? when they have kids etc

Kids multiple. Start with "Truce at Bakura". It's immediately after Endor. You can find Chronological lists for Legends, but the Heir to the Empire trilogy is where you get introduced to the Solo twins. Heir to the Empire trilogy is also the origin of Thrawn and widely regarded as some of the best Star Wars novels.

Disney has dropped the ball with Star Wars in a lot of ways, but the novels and comics have been incredible! I love to read and the high Republic stories and characters have been especially well written. The old legends stuff is dope too! I seriously encourage everyone to just pick up one of the books and go
