@@jeffreylocklear6019 3 actually. First Jedi Purge was the reason why the number of Jedi took a nose dive between KOTOR 1 and 2, the main Sith involved were the Triumvirate (Darths Traya, Sion and Nihilus) Great Jedi Purge was the one everyone's familiar with and the only one Palpatine ordered. After Vader killed The Dark Woman, the number of surviving Jedi that hadn't turned to the Dark Side was deemed insignificant and focus was shifted to the growing Rebel Alliance (which the most active Jedi survivors like Kota were affiliated with anyway). Third Jedi Purge was in the Legacy comics during the rise of Darth Krayt and was aimed at the New Jedi Order Skywalker had set up post RotJ... and a smaller scale version happened in Canon (because for some reason JJ didn't think having a Jedi Academy would be exciting in TFA and we all know how TLJ handled Luke's situation regardless of how you feel about it).

Yea, there's 39 that survived the initial order (still not many relatively speaking) but of those that did, and didn't turn to the dark side, 12 were killed by the Empire (all except Kanan and Luminara by Vader/Inquisitors). 6 are currently unknown, 13 turned to the dark side, and 8 survived past the Empire. Even if Order 66 was only 99.6% effective, the Jedi Purge overall was about 99.8%. (Assuming the Unknowns survived as well).

Another thing is that the order is dependant on Jedi being surrounded by clones. They knew this wouldn't be entirely effective which is why they also set up the distress beacon at the temple to lure in the survivors. That then fell through when Obi-Wan and Yoda promptly disabled it and send out a new message to go into hiding so if anything it was probably more effective than it realistically should have been.

keep in mind thats 39 including Vader and the 11 inquisitors so its really only 27 proper Survivors and even then Luminara was captured during order 66 and was ultimately executed so shes barely a survivor, Taron fell to the dark side so while he survived he didnt remain a jedi, and Eeth,Jocasta, Kirak, Barr, Zubain,Nuhj,Khandra,Mususiel were all known to have died during the purge. then subtracting the 3 who likely or arnt cannon and were looking at 10 survivors 3 of which only because they arnt expressly known to be dead so the actual list of known jedi survivors is Yoda,Obi wan, Ahsoka,Grogu,Quinlan, Kanan, and Naq Med and even there Obi and Kanan still die combatting the empire so counting ahsoka as "jedi enough" palpatine's plan ultimately dwindles the jedi order down to to 5 known survivors, one of which is in indefinite hiding,one of which is in infancy and cant pose a credible threat, one of which is questionable if they even count as a jedi, and another dies of old age before palpatine's plan concludes assuming Quinlan survives past the death of yoda,which he might not, theres actually a credible argument to be made that he is the only true and active jedi from before order 66 that lives past the empire. if Luke and ezra didnt join the order during the civil war palpatine would have effectively killed the order down to a single man within his lifetime.

1:52 After watching that episode recently, I wonder if a secondary element of Order 66 involves targeting any force user encountered unless otherwise stated by Palpatine given how the 332nd not only attacked Ahsoka but also prepared to shoot Maul (although the latter could have been merely to prevent the risk of escape as they didn't seem equipped to handle such a situation beyond pre Order 66 Jedi support). Also I'd be interested in a Legends version, after looking through the Wookieepedia page on the Great Jedi Purge it turns out a surprising amount managed to persist long enough to either assist the Rebels (most famously Kota) or join Luke's Jedi Order (like K'kruhk).

I don’t really have an issue with 39 survivors. Out of 10k? Jedi were, by their nature, spread out all over. They were often sent on secretive missions far from the Core Worlds. Many had experience being undercover, and their force sensitivity would have warned many that something horrible was happening. As long as the numbers are small, the story lines are good, and they don’t just keep popping up all the time, it will help drive story lines forward. Star Wars is about Jedi. Without new Jedi stories, how do we continue to move forward?

The storys of the Jedi who survived Order 66 and even moreso the storys of the ones who survived the Great Jedi Purge, too, are one of my favorite things in Legends, especially the storys about the Jedi who didn't leave the order before or had fallen to the Dark Side. So I'm glad that canon tells new ones in that area, too. Though just like in Legends, that still begs the question: Why didn't they join Luke Skywalkers new Jedi Order after he had rebuild it (in Legends, I know that a few did but still only a fracture of the confirmed survivors of both Order 66 and the Great Jedi Purge)?

I think a distinction should be made between surviving *Order 66,* which instructed the Clones to summarily execute their Jedi generals, and *The Great Jedi Purge,* which refers to the genocide of the Jedi in general and lasted almost the whole period between movies III and IV. Jedi surviving the *Purge* all the way to the OT, now that should be extremely limited and I believe they've already gone too far, particularly with Ahsoka. But Jedi surviving Order 66, that very initial wave as depicted in RotS? Hell, I think they could have a couple HUNDRED survive and it not bother me one bit, as long as they are hunted down by Vader and the Inquisitors during the rest of the Purge, preferably sooner rather than later. That's their job, to hunt down surviving Jedi! Besides, there is plenty of textual evidence which suggests that many many Jedi did not serve as generals at all, instead performing as diplomats, *actual* peacekeepers, teachers, etc. They wouldn't even be ABLE to be targeted by Order 66.

Personally I think the chances of Plo Koon still being alive are super high and he makes the most sense of any Jedi to bring back to the post order 66 era in Kenobi or Ahsoka. 1. His species is known to have super thick skin that can survive multiple direct blaster hits, so probably can withstand fire as well (Established in KOTOR) 2. His Species can survive several hours without oxygen (Established in KOTOR and TCW) 3. Clone Commander Wolfe, Plo’s commander is one of the only known clone’s that did not execute order 66 that did have a control chip in his brain, because of the head trauma that lost his eye is also presumed to have damaged his control chip. (Established in Rebels, some directly confronted by Dave Filloni, and in a comic) 4. Plo Koon And Ahsoka tano have a very strong bond, as he was the Jedi who found her and brought her to the Jedi temple. They have a very strong bond that’s evident throughout all of their encounters in TCW 5. Plo Koon is both Dave Filloni and Jon Favrea favorite Jedi and they both wanted to bring him back and he was originally written to return in the Mandalorian Season 2, but Disney executives decided to replace plo koons return with Luke Skywalker showing up in late production of the show instead.

There are roughly 12 inquisitors, all with teams of purge troopers, and likely entire sections of the ISB dedicated to their hunt. To Sidious, these dark siders are another liability to his rule, and he wouldn't allow them to exist just for 25 jedi stragglers (many of whom are padawans) and a few rogue sith. There HAS to be more, and I don't get why people think their stories wouldn't be cool.

How many Jedi survived Order 66 in Legends?
@StuartLugsden

Around 200

Depends on what metric you measure on. Because mainly the bulk of purge survivors come from table top RPG books which are… not strictly canon to legends. And then you have the jedi who survived because they appeared in pre prequel stories in the 90’s too.

Question: Do you guys think that any surviving clones post-Battle of Yavin would've been activated and would try to kill Luke Skywalker if they ever came across him, or did Order 66 only apply to Jedi who were around back during RotS era? I wonder how long that chip would cause them to be violent toward anyone who was outwardly a Jedi decades later...
@itsthemumu8585
@itsthemumu8585 2 жыл бұрын
I’m assuming that the chip is forever active. If you look towards The Bad Batch season 1, most of those clones have received Order 66 and become droid-like in obedience and character. I think only clones who’s chips haven’t been activated or have been removed are the only ones who wouldn’t be obedient to Sidious and kill a Jedi on sight without question. Order 66 was like an automatic brainwash, wiping away any personality and any distinguishing feature each clone had. A clone at the time of the Galactic Civil War that was with the Empire still would be more inclined to fire at Luke as soon as the saber was ignited than any Imperial recruit ever would. In Rebels, we are led to believe (somewhat, not confirmed) that Commander Wolffe executed the order (like Rex), and was responsible for Plo Koon’s death, but later had his chip removed, and was no longer violent towards other Jedi.

Some inquisitors got killed because order 66 was reactivated to a few clones, so yes.

@@itsthemumu8585 I will say though, that also looking at Bad Batch season 1, there seem to be two examples of that not being the case. 1.) If we're really assuming that Crosshair got his chip removed, he continued to stay loyal to the Empire and kept the same ruthless attitude. He wasn't like Wrecker who saw the "error" of his ways. 2.) Captian Howzer on Ryloth seems to be another trooper that managed to keep his individuality, despite his chip seemingly being activated. I highly doubt the Empire forgot to turn on Howzer and the other Ryloth trooper's chips, so it's interesting that he and 6 other troopers kept enough free will to not blindly follow Admiral Rampart's orders

I don’t think you should count the inquisitors as order 66 survivors but I would love to see a video about how the inquisitors were recruited. I doubt they all fell to the dark side before order 66 so what made the clones arrest them instead of shoot them on the spot. Same with Luminara, why was she just arrested and not shot down. I highly doubt that palpatine specifically ordered her arrest and every other Jedi to die instead. Doesn’t make sense.

Order 66 was an immediate Execution. I believe that 100's of Jedi could have survived, Hence what came after was known as the 2nd Great Purge. It was the Purging of the jedi. Personally I love to see a series hunt down a list of 100 of those Jedi who could have escaped and watch them be taken down. It would add to the Importance of 66 but not just that the Purge that happened afterwards.

For me I will always consider the amount of Jedi that it was supposed to be 99% affective. As their were so few that ultimately made to the end of the empire in BOTH Legends, and Canon though Kegends has more both are so effective that the Jedi would( in legends) and shall take decades to recover.

You know, I remember hearing that Anakin did bring balance to the Light and Dark side of the force by there being only two of each left in the universe. Him and Sidiuos, while Obi Wan and Yoda. But hearing that all these Jedi survived and some never stopped being Jedi kinda gets rid of that significance. Unless that meant he brought an end to the war was the balance, but even then
@Frost4Real
@Frost4Real 2 жыл бұрын
Google it, 'balance' was never supposed to mean 2 sith and 2 jedi
@Spencisms
@Spencisms 2 жыл бұрын
I don't know if "balance" means an equal part of Jedi and Sith, but rather more equality in the light and dark side of the force. In the prequels, light predominantly was in control of the galaxy, what with there being over 10,000 Jedi. (Or, if you're in the camp that the Jedi by the time of the prequels lost their way due to government and war, then it'd be predominantly dark side control.) Then in the Orig Trig, the Empire has run and controlled the galaxy for 18 years, killing and enslaving any who stand in the way, ruled by two vastly powerful Sith. Clearly the dark side is in control here, regardless of the few force user stragglers (some of which became more neutral, like Ahsohka or Maul). Anakin defeating Palp did bring balance: no side was predominantly in control
