It wouldn't have mattered if he succeeded. Palpatine would just have someone else become the Grand moff and control the Death Star, like Krennic

@@sethmoss8671 That is for sure. However the worst thing about Tarkin where that 1) His...less than sane philosophy. (Especially considering how popular it became even before the Empire which made things worse.) And 2) That he was a competent madman. Krennic on the other hand, was quite arrogant and self-centered, neither traits of which would help him as grand Moff. If anything, in the off chance the Rebels could not get him, Vader would. Many in the Empire where replaceable. But there is always a reason the replacement did not get the rank in question in the first place.

You can tell he too has a terrible temper like General Grevious considering he had that Commando Droid executed just for telling him that the prisoners escaped even tho the droid didn't even do anything wrong.

No one could have known at the time Yes Tarkin was evil even then, although Palpatine’s regime turned many Republic Officers into cruel Imperial leaders Yularian. Palpatine’s Admiral became head of the Imperial Secret Police the ISB, with his own blood on his hands, even as he had the best of intentions safeguarding the Empire Oh yes killing Tarkin would have saved many lives, as he became an unofficial right hand man of the Empire that set up its main doctrine But he wasn’t the only evil one there, as cruel men like Krennic would have taken his place, even at a lesser degree And the sad fact is, the knowledge of the hyperspace lanes allowed Darth Sidious to supply Grevious to attack Coruscaunt undetected at the Battle of Coruscaunt Ahsoka unwittingly gave Palpatine what he needed. Along with Tarkin, to set the stage of that fateful battle that would decide the Clone Wars Still again, Ahsoka can’t be made at fault for something that haven’t happened yet Anakin would cause much harm himself, but at present was the hero that was needed at the time At the time, Tarkin is a Republic Captain with brutal instincts, that have yet to do the evil he’s going to do, but at moment is an ally that needed help Ahsoka saved an ally, and helped won the day, everything else was on Tarkin, at what he chosen to do with his life

There's another thing people are ignoring is Sobeck, the bastard who got many Clone Troopers slaughtered in brutal ways and sadistically tortured a Jedi and planned on doing the same thing to more is no hero. He's not even trying to save the anybody. It's pure spite, simple as that. It doesn't matter if the guy he tried to kill did horrible things in the future. Nobody knew what he would do, not even Sobeck. I hate that people are trying to make Sobeck into a blameless victim.
