You can find Part 1 here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYjNiaN_hdJlla8 Here is the second stage of our look into why the ancient Sith, such as Naga Sadow, Darth Andeddu and Vitiate, had stronger Force powers than modern Sith, such as Darth Plagueis and Darth Sidious. In Part 2, we look at the events that occurred between the one thousand year gap between Darth Bane and Darth Sidious. I hope that you all enjoy today’s video and that you all have a safe and wonderful New Years!

Star Wars Reading Club I recall the words of Ajunta Pal in KotoR 2 - "We destroyed eachother. Coveted the secrets of eachother." and lately I've been paying more attention to the ebb and flow of the Jedi and Sith orders. Bane begins the rule of two and the Jedi council becomes too large. But prior to that, the Sith were many. And after the fall of the Jedi Council, Sidious began leaking bits of sith knowledge about - as seen with the inquisitors. They would never become true Sith under Palpatine but they were given bits of knowledge. I'm glad to see the "if not for meee" again. I was baffled when it didn't show up in a couple vids. Poor Shiiv... I wonder if they had operas on the deathstar. Stormtrooper Hamlet. Alas poor Yorik's helmet? 😂

Just my own fan theory here, but Sidious could have been weaker as a result of being distracted from his Sith studies by the Galactic Civil War. He mentioned to Anakin once about how ancient Sith could restore life, and Sidious was apparently later killed by Anakin as Darth Vader before he could realise that goal.

You hit just about everything here. Historical, non-fictional influences of the Force, the importance of balance and compromise in all things,... but dude you missed Palpatine and Sidious... Sidious was a stunted man because he did NOT study HIS history and theology. Would Palpatine have been so evil if he did?; Maybe more so? Back to our shared, non-fictional one. You seem also aware of how through gnosticism, all Pre-Roman and Pre-Abrahamic faiths are seemingly linked, and how it would appear ancient people had an excellent grasp on the meaning for life. 'Do ho harm' seems to be everywhere, and it definitely predates Judaism. Also I suspect Jainists and deists being so similar is a lot more than a coincidence. I think ancient people have seen this happen to enough empires, and know precisely what comes next. There is the true meaning of prophecy as well... I could go on all day about this, and do sometimes actually. Read my blogs at minds.com. PS. Don't get too lost by Star Wars leading you into mindfulness. That was one of it's intended classic features.

Did he do any studying? or did he simply mirror Plaguis' teaching where convenient? Palpatine's entire life was one of influencing galactic politics, rather than study of the ancient Sith knowledge; In fact, I think he even mocked Plaguis for his pursuit of the knowledge of restoring and creating life, while ignoring the growing threat to his, his own apprentice... Palpatine was obsessed with power through politics, as opposed to power through knowledge and history, and that was not only his own downfall, but that of the Galactic Empire, along with 2 wasteful superweapons...

Modern sith : use blue force lightning, most powerfull force lightning ever existed. Ancient sith : cute, use Red force lightning and desintegrates the enemy into dust in an instant. Use force drain too drain whole solar systems and Planets out of life, use force projection too fight on hundreds of worlds at the same time, use force mind controll too controll thousands of people at the same time, use force choke too choke thousands of people around the galaxie at the same time, use the mastery of force drain too drain thousands of force users from the force and increase the own with it, use the mastery of life drain too drain the life of millions of people too increase the own lifespan, and many more insane strong force powers, even movies can't show. You think the little force Storm from sidious in legends are a strong feat, imagine it not with blue force lightning instead with red force lightning then you can imagine what is a real powerfull feat. A Note: red force lightning the most powerfull force lightning exist in Star Wars it's nothing you can learn yourself, it is a matter of if you have it or not, it is a talent. Only the most powerfull sith ever can use it if they have the talent for it. Known users are, revan, vitiate ( not valkorion only his original body had this talent ), the son. Another fact about it you can't deflect it with lightsabers, only with an even more powerfull red force lightning from yourself. It is just too powerfull for all comon defences against force lightning.

@@kaustavkapur5532 also wrong. The master should never teach the apprentice on his own will. The Master has to use the Apprentice for his own gain. I quite like the Jedai teachings, as in the original force users teachings. Where there is passion and serenity, that there is both chaos and peace. The force is just that a fundamental truth that there must be both to exist and therefore a balance between them is the true way of the force. I like grey jedi, not the lower scale ones like Qui gon, but full on sith and jedi force users who embrace both sides of the force to complete it.

The destruction of the Jedi by the clones was not just a culmination of Bane's ideology of patience and cunning, but also exemplified Revan (and Kreia's) emphasis on non-Force wielders being a blind spot for both Jedi and Sith. Revan built HK-47 as an assassin droid masquerading as a protocol/translator assistant to carry out super important missions, including targeting Jedi for death. HK-47 details plenty of ways which it accomplished this. Same when Revan created the death squads of non-Force users (like one that Atton was a part of) to hunt down and convert or kill Jedi. Force users almost always see themselves as superior to everyone else, hence the massive underestimation that made these plans, just like Order 66, succeed. It is a beautiful weaving together of lore, that makes the EU so great.

Not to mention more versatile - seriously, a bruiser (Bane was intelligent, sure but in combat he was a bruiser, a blunt instrument and sadly it shows! After all his solution - the Rule of Two - wasn't a great idea either, a secret cult several Sith would have worked far better because frankly not even a force user survives everything and with two points of failure (if the master dies before training the student enough so he (or she) can finish on her own? Yeah, the Sith are fucked! Same if both master and apprentice die (there's people, beings, beasts, droids etc. who can kill force users!) his plan could have failed at any time in history! Hell, it might have worked but conspiring for a thousand years for a mere 20 years of dominance? Fuck that shit damned!) simply is less combat effective over all than a sorcerer - hell, only the strongest in the force were trained as sorcerers even in the old days of the sith!

Keep seeing this question: "If the ancient sith were far more powerful than modern sith, even leading up to Sidious, how come they didn't rule galaxy?" Answer: Because they fought amongst themselves more often than they did against their natural & mortal enemies. And that continued from Day One all the way to Bane's time. He KNEW the Sith would NEVER succeed in beating the Jedi or the Republic as long as there were too many in the galaxy at once, cause each sith would try to one-up the other in some vain attempt at proving to be the most powerful. Bane's Rule of Two succeeded because its harder to track two sith lords in a galaxy full of quadrillions, whereas its easy to track thousands of sith since they werent exactly stealthy with their use of force abilities. And on top of this, the Jedi became weak themselves when they believed their enemy was gone forever, they believed there was no reason to focus on combat as much anymore. If the Jedi had kept training their members as if the Sith were still out there, then it would have been much harder for modern sith to succeed. Making your foe believe they have won has a serious advantage: their guard is down. In truth, the war between the Sith & Jedi will never end. Even Sidious fell into that trap when he believed he had won, and thats how Sidious would ultimately lose. Even though its sci-fi fantasy, there is great wisdom in this = the more you forget your foe, the greater the advantage they'll have when they return.

While Darth Gravid's heresy was a setback, it must be noted that Sidious ultimately recovered lots of ancient Sith knowledge. Essence Transfer, Force Drain and Force Storms were all within his repertoire by the time of the Dark Empire comics. I think Jedi vs Sith: The Essential Guide to the Force mentioned that Sidious could use every Force power available to the dark side. He became, at the end of it all, the most powerful Dark Lord of the Sith in galactic history.

You have to know that I like the Ancients more BUT: *Sidious knew all Force Powers:* Palpatine has spent decades studying the most arcane and esoteric Jedi disciplines. It is believed that he has mastered nearly all the known powers, previously unknown powers, and devises new ones at his pleasure. -Dark Empire Sourcebook *And he was more powerful than any Sith before him:* Vader imagined the power that could be his if he crushed Palpatine and established his own rule over the Empire. But first, he would need his own apprentice. By himself, he could not hope to defeat *the most powerful Sith Lord the galaxy had ever known.* -Vader: The Ultimate Guide Yoda went after Palpatine in the empty Senate chamber, but could not defeat *the most powerful Sith Lord in history*. - The New Essential Chronology Beyond the vision of the Jedi Knights, somewhere within the darkness, *the greatest master of evil ever to use Sith power* bides his time. As his strength grows, his plans begin to shape the course of the galaxy, and his snares await the unsuspecting. - The Complete Visual Dictionary When Yoda crosses sabers with the movie's arch-villain, he doesn't launch into a pinwheeling display of acrobatics, as he did against Count Dooku in Episode II. Instead, Yoda faces the dark side's fury, channeled by *the most powerful Sith Lord in history*. "Rob Coleman wanted Yoda to feel the power of his enemy," says Wheless, "like a force he's never dealt with before." - Insider #86: Yoda's Right Arm *Darth Sidious proved to be the grim culmination of a thousand years of Sith philosophy and teachings.* -Jedi vs Sith: The Essential Guide to the Force When the Sith finally emerged from a thousand years of watching and waiting, they numbered-in accordance with the tradition set down by Darth Bane-only two. *The most powerful of these was Darth Sidious, an ice-cold, diabolically calculating genius equipped with the strength of the dark side of the Force, as well as an enormous wealth of Sith artifacts, equipment, and knowledge.* -The Dark Side Sourcebook Inside the spacious interior of the Galactic Senate chamber, Yoda challenged the Emperor. The two engaged in a spectacular duel- *a contest between the most powerful practitioners of the Force’s light and dark sides.* -The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia Only Palpatine has been able to spread his darkness completely and totally over an entire galaxy. -Taken from Dark Empire Sourcebook Apart from these accolades he has also better feats than Nihilus and Valkorion.

Sorry if I write something wrong, English isn't my first language. ;) He was capable of dominating 20 billion people: Almost mindless under the oppression of the Emperor's dark side influence, the people of Byss find their life energies constantly leeched off during the Emperor's vile machinations. -Byss and the Deep Core (number also from that article) There are other descripions, but I like this the most. He made Byss into one of the most powerful Dark Side Nexus: Over time, the Emperor's dark side energies slowly corrupted the world and transformed it into one of the most powerful dark side sites in the entire galaxy. -Byss and the Deep Core Then he could dominate Luke Skywalker's mind (you can argue, that he was in Dark Empire already more powerful than Yoda, who was the most powerful Jedi of all time and an equal to ROTS Sidious), stomp him in a duel and with the force. After a brief lightsaber battle, the Emperor subdued Luke and broke his will. -Handbook 3: Dark Empire (you have to note, that it was on a Dark Side Nexus) *Force Storms*: He was capable of creating multiple at once and controlling them: "The energy storm that took Commander Skywalker, this is not an isolated event. Similar Storms have been detected in several systems." -Dark Empire Audio Drama Vast energy storms that connect wildly disparate spots across the galaxy, hyperspace wormholes are unpredictable and devastating. It was to the Rebel Alliance's detriment that Emperor Palpatine was able to *not only control these storms, but to create them.* -Handbook Volume 3: Dark Empire It needed Luke, Leia and Anakin (unborn) to let him loose control. There are other good ones but I think I've posted the most important. :)

Darth babe imo, is the most influential with lord, more so than palpatine and revan. He wasn’t the most powerful BUT his intentions were pure, his mistake wasn’t in creating 2 it was underestimating the greed and lust his successors would have and instead of lusting and craving the dark side they deformed their views into craving power over the inhabitants of the universe through any means, taking priority over serving the dark side, you covered this.

Another point that should’ve been mentioned was the perverted incentive that Masters had to withhold information from their apprentices. For fear that once they taught their apprentices everything they knew, the apprentices would surely kill them. Rule of two and all. So it’s logical to assume that uppity apprentices killed many masters that had much more information that they had not shared, which was lost.

Dear lord, Darth Sidious rediscovered many old with techniques and invented some of his own. He was also the only Sith to ever fully master the dark side and fully control a force storm, along with being the only being ever to summon a force storm based purely on their own raw dark side power. His life was indeed one of study, especially after becoming emperor. One of the reasons he became emperor was so that he’d have a much larger access to the rest of the galaxy, and all of its lost/hidden dark side secrets. The part of Plagueis’s research that he mocked was how little Plagueis was willing to experiment based on his own beliefs. He didn’t believe in the possibility of a force afterlife or realm thereafter, and thus Sidious was able to tap into so many more abilities because he lacked said disbelief and was willing to experiment with that realm of possibilities. Sidious was indeed a Sith of study, and there is a reason George Lucas said he was the most powerful Sith to ever live, with Lucasfilms backing up his statement. He was the shadow, and the culmination of all of the Sith who came before him, with Nihilus, Bane, and Andedu acknowledging this when they later mocked Darth Krayt for being a heretic who hadn’t learned from the Brotherhood of Darkness. This video gives the implication that these old abilities were never learned by any of the modern Sith, but Sidious is not one of those who never gained that knowledge. He not only restored said abilities, but improved them.

How did the ancient sith develop such powerful dark force abilities without falling victim to the same problems that The Brotherhood of Darkness had, and modern Sith still can't completely eliminate? I have two theories. The first is that the rule that the apprentice must try to kill the master may not have been implemented yet, but may have been simply to surpass them. The second is that the teachings were not originally discovered by the Sith, but by someone else and were either stolen, or simply a corrupt version of it. Anyone else have any ideas?

It's insane to think Yoda was born shortly after the formation if banes rule of 2 Sith and then died literally right before it failed. Kinda makes you think Yoda might well have been the forces way of reacting to the rule of 2's profound connection to the dark side by creating a being of equally profound connection to the light side Yoda is called the avatar of light after... so theres some food for thought

The sith are just problematic as an order. The sith of Vitiate's era were numerous and powerful but as a result there was much infighting which greatly limited what they could accomplish. The sith of the brotherhood of darkness were many but they were also weak, they became too similar to the jedi, the nature of the dark side is chaos and conflict, without these their power could not grow. The sith of Bane's era ultimately failed because there were only two of them meaning, if you kill them, the whole order is at an end; there were not enough of them to make a lasting impact.

I support Bane's choice to kill the old Sith and start over. A bunch of people at a training academy not bothering or refusing to read old texts because they deem it unsuitable to learn from then it is obvious. They are too incompetent, stupid, and devolving the quality of the organization or religion to mud. You can't function in society with that attitude! Reform it or get rid of them! (Heck, I hate the idea of there being a Sith academy too. In theory it sounds good but then you realized you turned your mysterious religion into Harry Potter with high school clicks, mean boys or girls rivalries, and all the cliche school or college drama. Bane literally done what my thoughts were. I have to clap my heads to the writer of the novel named Darth Bane: Path of Destruction that created the story and logic of why the Sith academy must be destroyed.)

You would think that even though that knowledge was lost that someone on the dark side who sought out knowledge would have experimented and found at least one or a few of the old with power after a while. Maybe not the most powerful one but maybe some more powerful than what most on the dark side knew possible in there time, then again maybe if artifacts were needed to use some of those powers then those ones would be lost to time or until someone smart enough realized some artifact or something was needed.

My biggest problem with canon is that I have one simple question... Why would the "main story" be focused on a time period when all of the best and most powerful force users are not around? I would way rather watch a movie about Naga Sadow, Marka Ragnos, Exar Kun etc than the boring and weak Sidious/Vader era. I mean seriously, imagine watching a scene in a movie where Nihilus sucks the life force of an entire planet, or a scene where Exar Kun goes into the tomb on Korriban and falls to the dark side. Would be way better than the shit we are getting now

I enjoy listening to your Star Wars content and agree the Sith were far less powerful then the ancient Sith, but so were the Jedi. Looking at the Jedi of old vs the modern Jedi like Obi-Wan and Anakin, I have come to the conclusion the Jedi were weekend in power as time went on. After just finishing reading the old republic series in both books and comics, I made this assessment by comparing the old order with the modern. For example, Anakin was supposed to be the chosen one, who was supposed to wield immense power. I figured he should have been as powerful as, if not more powerful than Revan. Right? So as a Jedi why was he so week in comparison? Were the Jedi so controlling with rules and restrictions that they weekend themselves? Unless I am missing something, I didn't see any battle mediations going on during the Clones Wars.

Also it being a illusion rather then an actual Sith Ghost as intended. I get what they meant by the Force Ghost thing, but that's why it seemed better to actually have Sith ghost so its like yeah Sith can transcend death, in a way though it's not really how they wanted, it's a lot harder then light side force ghosting, and it's virtually not worth it, which would be why only the best of the beat Sith could.

Some idiot named Gravid tried to burn it all away. But Gean said nope, and him down; even though she lost an arm and part of her jaw in the process.. We needed to have a storyline thoroughly covering that era, and that fight specifically. There are 2 periods in Star Wars that were never explored at all before Disney took over and trashed it all.. The inter-Sith wars period after TOR and before the New Sith Wars (3500-2000BBY) and then most of the republic classic era, the “great peace of the republic” era; so pretty much everything after Bane & Zannah up to Tenebrous and Plagueis save for one or two storylines is completely unexplored. We don’t even know Tenebrous’ master’s name. He’s just referred to as “a twilek Sith Lord”…. Too bad this “high republic” era didn’t come out before Disney took over. Because God knows they’ve just messed it up and turned it into “progressive” politically charged bullshit that nobody cares about in their Star Wars stories. Every “powerful” Jedi is a black female. Notice that? Every “good guy” is a non-white female and most the “bad guys” are “white cis-males” lmao. White man BAD!! It’s just hilarious. Or it would be, if it wasn’t just flat out embarrassing…. Politically charged bullshit at the cost of the story itself. Because the ideals are more important than the actual storyline to them, which is the ENTIRETY of the problem with Disney’s fanfiction timeline. There’s only one “canon” , it was called the hierarchy of canon. The ACTUAL Lucas-era timeline of 40 years. Fuck Disney and their fanfiction. It isn’t Star Wars. At all. They solely see what they know is a massive platform that millions upon millions of people watch/read/play/consume, and therefore a platform to reach the maximum amount of people possible to shove their incompetent ideals down your throats. People need to STOP spending money on Disney Star Wars. FORCE the change or it will NOT happen…. What they NEED to do is treat it like DC or marvel. Earth 1 and earth 2. ALLOW people who want to make content for the so-called “legends” timeline to DO so. And then they can continue making content for their fanfiction timeline all they want. That would actually cause more people to LIKE the Disney timeline imo. Then they can do/change whatever they want in their timeline. And we can have the things that never came out that we always wanted/needed to see can then come to fruition. People would respect Disney Star Wars FAR more if they set it up like DC or marvel. Like they OWN marvel, they have the people that know how to set it up. Get to fucking work and fix your mistakes. Starting with the very first and greatest one you made, dumping the whole Star Wars timeline in its entirety. They literally said you guys don’t know what Star Wars is none of this is Star Wars, only what WE say is Star Wars, is Star Wars. That’s blatant narcissism right there…. It needs snipped at the roots.

this pose an interesting conundrum in my opinion. because of the jedi purging everything sith that they came across to try and protect the galaxy they seem to have failed to detect sith causing Palpatine rule of the galaxy however if they did not it seems to me that sith would have some kind of backups albeit in the hands of jedi but still theoretically retrievable of some of the sith teachings which specific teaching I personally do not know. personally I see this thought as a line diverging only to come back together aka if jedi didn't destroy the sith artifacts the hidden sith could retrieve it learn from them and become powerful and rule the galaxy probably as much more powerful being but jedi could have found them much sooner and with the rule of two vs. the jedi order which as I recall are at the in the several thousand and again admittedly a large portion of the jedi order being awful at possible confrontation of sith and being little more than cannon fader if in combat. just figured id think out loud a bit on this and get your opinion on my rough thought on the theoretical scenario. again this is a rough bit of thinking out loud so it may just be rambling

Im always weirded out by how the force is portrayed in such a limited way as "abilities". In my mind the force would be an engine to enact whatever one's imagination called it to perform, to bend reality however one wished, unbound by such specific actions and not such gamey sounding things like "force speed" or choke or whatever. These aren't D&D spells. To me it really cheapens the force and its limitless potential. Its as if those force users lacked imagination to do anything other than a short list of powers found in some pc title, or the force itself limited its users to be able to do only specific things in a specific way. Its as if a jedi said "i can jump high, push and pull stuff, deflect bolts etc, AND nothing more couse i can't be bothered to be imaginative at all, some guy 2000 years ago had to dig deep and shit so that i now can have a one new specific ability i didn't use my brain to think of".

Magic and the like should't be so easy to wield, it has to either have drawbacks or have some limitations (that can be surpassed obviously). A simple force push should require no effort and little concentration, whilst a force storm must demand all the focus possible and proper preparation. The Force can have uses beyound our wildest dreams but they aren't that easy to pull off, reason why millennia of study and teachings allowed for improvement on techniques and discovery of new powers.

Indeed they could - in legends there's the ability to FLOW-WALK! You can watch past events that way (you can't alter the timeline (no paradoxes possible and no interacting with people from the past!), but in theory you could learn from the ancient sith, you would just need a lot of time to find the points in the past where they discover/use their most devastating or brilliant abilities (like teleportation and force travel (basically using the force to travel vast distances), the illusions Naga Sadow used to nearly conquer the Republic etc. etc.))

Cameron Colby Really... Sidious did this… Consume all of space, alter time, and rip reality itself through the use of Force Storms. Burn entire planets with his Force lightning. mind dominate twenty billions, while also draining the a Force out of them. Did galactic size battle mediation for straight 23 years and he did it for 24/7 without having a rest during his reign as the Emperor of the Galactic Empire up until to his death above Endor. Mind dominate hundreds of quadrillions as proven, he can mind dominate an entire galaxy. Became so powerful that he exists as a being of pure dark side energy. Created Force Defense so durable that it can survive attacks that literally consume and destroys everything it touches, as to not let Luke and R2-D2 or Imperial fleets transport to Byss as to not being destroyed by the all-destructive power of the Force Storm and he can also create Force Defense on scales of entire fleets . It took every single goddamn Jedi from the time of their creation up until to 11 A.B.Y. to basically seal his spirit into Chaos (the Star Wars Equivalent of hell) for an eternity and still not killing him. Move at high-end relativistic speeds, when he is a spirit, he moves at MTFL speeds. Move a 19,000 Meter ship casually while also mind wiping trillions. If those deceased Jedi didn't appear in the first place, he would have succeeded to enslave the entire galaxy or the universe to the dark side, and make it into a dark side nexus, in which, he drains from, to make himself omnipotent, and have his mere presence spread across the universe, thus making himself omnipresent, and possibly omniscient on a universal scale. This is all the evidence of what all, I said in this post: comicvine.gamespot.com/star-wars-universe/4015-57038/forums/darth-sidioussheev-palpatine-super-respect-thread-1877280/

wilfri Castillo Legions of Jedi Masters is absolutely nothing compared to a every deceased Jedi from 25,000 B.B.Y. to 11 A.B.Y. and Exar Kun got his spirit obliterates, whereas it took every deceased Jedi to seal his spirit to the netherworld of the Force, but not enough to destroy his spirit.

Based on your logic, Exar Kun should be more powerful than Sidious because Exar Kun is older than Sidious. By applying the same logic to the Sith Ghost on the Murr Talisman, he should be considered the most powerful Sith Lord ever, because he's like almost 7,000 years old during B.B.Y. You do realize that long age doesn't equal to becoming more powerful in the Force, Yoda is like more than 800 years old, and he got beaten by Sidious. I' m aware that Grandmaster or Prime Luke is at least capable of beating Prime Sidious.

I just look up Exar Kun's exact death, it was stated 11 A.B.Y. Luke in that year is still Grandmaster Luke power level, GM Luke power level only appear like 25 A.B.Y. or after that time. Luke on 11 A.B.Y is not Grandmaster Luke level. Exar Kun still loses to Peak Sidious, the same guy who survived every deceased Jedi from 25,000 B.B.Y. to 11 A.B.Y., also Jedi who had become one with the Force is more powerful when there are still living, because they had become one with the Force itself. Also, GM Luke=/= every single deceased Jedi that have ever existed.
