I really dig the looks of the RSKaos and wish I could afford it but can say that beyond a shadow of a doubt, from personal experience, that the Mini Nightshade is the best "secondary" sized knife I've ever had! I'd love to get a Mini Bugout to do a side by side comparison because I suspect that even the budget version (g10 & 14c28n) could go blow for blow against the Benchmade. I've been very, very, very impressed with the 14c "budget steels" i have used. I have doubts that the carbon fiber and s35 add 35% more performance, which is roughly the price difference between the two. It also has a very satisfying metallic high carbon "tink" when it deploys. Which is purely and enjoyment thing over performance.

Dude I truly truly love the Mini Nightshade, but they ground out on the backspacer. If you flip it open to close like you did with the crossbar it will definitely compromise the blade. I thought I had a lemon, but the second one I purchased did the exact same thing. A simple way to observe such is to leave it closed and access the lockbar and watch it drop down to the aluminum backspacer. I would totally love to hear your feedback man!

I will definitely check all of mine when I get home but I am pretty sure at least my s35vn models aren’t contacting the spacer because I inspected the edges really well before I start testing them and neither had any roughness in there edges and both slice phonebook paper clean. I will slam mine down as hard as I can and see if that possible does it 👍🍻🍻

I saw someone else mention that as a problem, but on my knife there is plenty of clearance between the blade and backspacer. It's strange there would be so much variance. I have the CF S35VN version.

I bought my Mini Nightshade in the S35vn and carbon fiber after my favorite retailer had a restock. Might have been a bad batch. My detent was a little soft and floppy, but it was there, so I didn't do a return. I noticed the same model being sold as a return, 2 of them, because of the soft detent. For me, a soft detent is not a returnable issue, but I can see why others would return theirs.

I like the button actuation of a compression type of lock and I was looking at the Spyderco Smock, but the lines of the knife just don't do it for me. At this time, the grey sheepsfoot is already sold out and that is the one that I would prefer. It is nice to see that they become available from time to time.

Mini nightshade came with what felt like the sharpest factory edge I have ever seen, very thin blade, the thing can slice.

Hi Stassa. It seems like you run out of rope during nearly every test. How is that possible?

It’s not that I run out I cut a section of rope and when it’s gone it’s gone. I’m not testing the knife for edge retention, I am testing how it slices, how it feels in different grips, and just to make sure it holds an edge as long as others in the same steel. Sisal rope is $10 a bundle and I pay for all the testing materials myself and it really adds up quickly every month so that is another reason I don’t try to cut till it’s dull. Pete does a great job with that already anyway. Well I hope you have a good day talk to you later 🍻

Too bad vosteed can't make a decent button lock..love these knives..but even though they are very different knives.,the junk thunderbird turned me off to vosteed. Love ya brother.!
