Using example time series data, we show how to save, edit, and combine graphs in Stata. Very useful for analysis and presentation of data.

You have become my personal hero tonight. I think it's great how you do not just answer one small main question, but rather take the time to address the broader spectrum of issues that may arise around it. Thanks so much!

Thank you so much, Mike, I have a pooled panel datasets for two years (2014 &2017) and am writing a thesis on the determinants of total factor productivity (TFP) in the service sector. I have two objectives (1) to determine the levels of TFP and (2) analyzing the determinants of TFP. the literature suggests that TFP is got from a predicted residual and the levels of TFP are obtained as an exponential of TPF. My problem is how do drow a graph showing the levels of TFP because the figures of that generated exponential variable are in millions. Thanks

Mike, i have a question ? how do you create a two-way scatter combining 2 variables. for Example " use variable X as a function of variable Y"

How do I copy the combined graphs into an .rtf or .docx or doc document?

wow very instructive!, if I may ask what screen recorder are you using?

Hello Mike, your video has really helped me thank you. But I have 2 questions. Question#1: I have not been able to complete the same exercise as you did on this video, the reason being that I'm getting an error message each time I type and enter "tsset daten". the error says: string variables not allowed in the varlist; "daten" is a string variable. Why do I get this error comment?. Question#2: is "rnas=d" a command?
@mikejonaseconometrics18864 жыл бұрын
Following 'freduse NASDAQCOM', for example, the variable 'date' will be string or text, but 'daten' should be numeric and able to be used as the time-series indicator. In the tutorial, I used the command 'gen rnas=d.NASDAQCOM/L.NASDAQCOM' to generate the percent change or return on the NASDAQ index level. So 'rnas' is just the name I used for this new variable, and not a part of a general command. If we let 'newvar' be the name of the variable we create, and 'oldvar' be the name of an existing variable, the general form for a generate statement would be: generate newvar = f(oldvar). I hope this helps!

Thank you! This is very useful! For same reason, Stata gives me an error message (option name() not allowed r(198);) when I try to name the graphs following your command (e.g. tsline NASDAQCOM, name (level)). I wonder, what could be the problem?
@mikejonaseconometrics18864 жыл бұрын
Hi - I'm not sure what the issue might be, I just replicated your command and did not get an error. I'm using Stata 15 and 16, are you using an earlier version?

I've got the same problem: option name not allowed; invalid 'name'

@@mikejonaseconometrics1886 I'm using Stata 16

Minna, I solved the problem. Maybe it changes by version. In my case, I generate the graph first, then click at "start graph editor", then I click on "rename graph" (this symbol in on the top), then I give a name and save. After you do this for every graph you intend to combine, you can use the command "graph combine ......". Hope it helps.
