State-Level Youth Festival 2024: Battle of the Bands Competition

Hi everyone, as one of the judges for the competition, I’d like to make a clarification. First of all, I personally think the students who participated are all extremely talented. They have so much potential and will go very far. It was so challenging for the three of us to come up with the three winners. Now, the judgement was based on two songs each from each band. In this video, there’s only one song shown for most bands, particularly two of the winners. I feel most of the comments here are from those that weren’t there physically. Our judgement was based on the overall performance of BOTH songs and not just one. I really want to clarify this :) this video shows only one for Bethesda and Model. Having said that, Patkai was absolutely brilliant right from their online audition clip. And it was so so close in the final as well with another band. Just 1-2 marks difference. We really had to take our time and we also felt sorry that we could chose just three. While also respecting your views and opinions, I hope you all understand that there was more to the contest than what is seen here in the video. I can say in confidence that all three of us were extremely unbiased and did our best. We apologise if we’ve hurt anyone. And in every competition, unfortunately there will have to be some that wins and loses. The great thing about music though is that there’s more to it than competition. This is my message to all that didn’t make it : We are sorry that we had to choose only three and I’m sure you’re all heartbroken. Please continue working on your craft. Music above everything, is about expressing yourself regardless of what people think. There is a place for all of you in the world. This is just the start, you have a long and bright future. It's not easy to perform on stage, live. I think all of them performed exceptionally well. We should be proud of them instead. I think the judges had a hard time to pick up the winners 😂. Trying their best to come up wuth genuine result ❤❤❤ The 1st winner deserved it with their Clean management. The guitarist was the best and the keyboardist was okay too. However the vocalist was bad and his voice was not meant for rock song. He'll good if he sing secondhand serenade type song but his voice is not really for rock song. The first band and the band that sang a traditional song had great vocals

Why no individual prizes for these promising youngsters? Through the individual prizes they would have gotten more motivated. Even if it was 500 that’s more than enough because they made a name for themselves😀 just my opinion actually. Kudos to the winners and to all that didn’t win, I’m sure it’s hard processing it but at the end of the day, there is always room for improvement 😊 And personally I really liked the energy the instrumentalists of the 1st band,The Cry for you and the Bed of roses band gave, didn’t know we had these many good instrumentalists in our state🙌

One of the judges Moanunsang is a legend. Arguably the best rock vocalist ever from Nagaland, one of the pioneers of bringing the genre to the forefront. The first Naga Idol. If you don’t know him or his work, then you’re not in a position to talk about music scene in Nagaland. The other two judges, two ‘pop’ artists you’re mentioning have played some of the biggest music festivals in the country. They have done multiple India tours with their own music in an era where people are still doing cover music in Nagaland. They’re not your karaoke/backing track singers. They’re proper live artists who have their own band with huge live production. They are top notch artists but even more, top professional LIVE musicians with tons of national and international experience. Real artists who play their own music and represent Nagaland in the biggest stages. These three are MORE THAN capable to judge a small school level band contest. It’s okay to not agree with the decision but it’s not okay to bring them down without knowing who or what they are. Have some respect.

I was there and the judges did what they had to do. All the bands was given two songs to perform and they can't judge based on only one song . Patkai bed of roses song was performed quite well but we as a audience too was not satisfied with the other song 😢
