“It is with heartfelt gratitude that in order for Filipinos and Australians, in both the private and public sectors who shared their precious time and effort to ensure the success of this visit, thank you all very much as it has been very productive, very constructive and provides us a further landmark in the relations between our two countries,” remarks President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. as he raises a toast for the deepening Philippines-Australia relations during a state luncheon hosted by Governor-General David Hurley and Mrs. Linda Hurley at the Government House in Canberra, Australia on February 29, 2024.
“The Philippines and Australia are natural partners. Our shared history, our Strategic Partnership, and the long-standing friendship between Filipinos and Australians at a purely people-to-people level, inspires us to work tirelessly to pursue closer relations and further opportunities for collaboration,” the President states.
“I remain confident and optimistic knowing that we have a like-minded and responsible partner in Australia that shares our positive outlook and is willing, as history has shown, to exert its influence for the benefit of our region and of our people,” President Marcos Jr. ends in his message.
His attendance to the state luncheon, together with First Lady Louise Araneta Marcos, wraps up his State Visit to Canberra, Australia. Earlier today, the President met with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for a bilateral discussion that focused on ways to maximize the enhanced status of relations between the Philippines and Australia.
He also made history for the Philippines as the first Filipino President to ever deliver an address to the Parliament of Australia.
As he returns to Manila today, the President is set to embark on a trip to Melbourne next week to participate at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) - Australia Special Summit.
