I LOVED the first one. This is what a zombie game should be. Trying to build up a base, get supplies, and make it one more day. Its a zombie survival game that really punished you for using a gun. Killing the zombies was never the goal, sneaking into that house for the last box of twinkies is. I have to have like 800 hours in the first one. Also state of decay one had one of my favorite quotes of any game ever. "You ever wonder where all the toilet paper went? Who stepped out of their house at the end of the world and was like, I'm going to have to take some shits." Ok I might not have gotten it word for word but thats close.

I'm a fifty year old grandma and this is my first Xbox game I've played and I have to say I'm addicted, I liked how you could start off easy and work your way up the difficulty levels. Can't compare to other games as this is the only one I've played, oh except for the long dark. That damn bear!! Now that game put me off cause this newbie gamer found it too hard and frustrating .

If you enjoyed this you might also like Days Gone. One main protagonist but similar zombie flavor, scavenging, avoiding using guns until it's necessary etc., and again you can play at an easier difficulty level to ease yourself in.

It’s MUCH easier then the first one. I’ve played it for 18 hours or so and I’ve only gotten close to dying once. There just aren’t enough freaks to be a threat. and normal zombies are a joke, they do barley any damage now and you can dodge them easily. And blood plague might as well not even be there, if anything it helps you ‘cause selling the cure is a good profit.

Larry B The game is not hard at all. Once you master the controls it's a breeze. The blood plague zombies are easy to killl, the plague hearts are easy to kill, hordes are dumbed down, and humans are easy to kill. I still like it though even if it's easier than the first game.

Kenyrant Your a PC player and I’m rebuilding my pc to play and atm having just a normal Walmart mini tower where I threw another 8gb of ram can run the first game on low settings and got me thinking about when I rebuild to get the second one, I love the style and gameplay of the first but is it really as dull as I’m hearing? I’m okay with not having personal relationships with my survivors but so like the scenarios of people turning back at camp and I build a relationship with the survivors skills anyway so if I lose my good character I’m sad but not if like say state of decay 1 I lost maya, Ed, or Marcus one of the first three ya get unless I built them up. So on this paragraph do you think I POSSIBLY would get my money’s worth from this?

I'd say this is the best zombie game for me, if we're speaking about concept (since I haven't played it yet). I've always wanted a game where you build up a community and gather supplies and people to try and survive and thrive in a zombie apocalypse. The idea of creating your own stories and character permadeath mixed in with the previous elements makes for my ideal zombie game.

I'm in love with this game, bought it when it came out and now i have juggernaut edition and i must say, game has evolved a lot. In single player, i haven't actually gotten any bugs, but in multiplayer sometimes if we crash with friend, yeah it's a kerbal's space program lol. Otherwise for me 10/10 zombie game. Makes you really feel like shit has hit the fan and you're not immortal and overpowered, unless you have red talon contract haha. Only downside is, that the cars all seem to have exact same amount of health and speed variation is little noticable.

I like the game. If survival and or zombie adventure games are your thing you’ll instantly fall in love with the amount of exploring and progression. As you said it gets repetitive but those who like this style of game won’t get bored quickly, and with the game now being free on Xbox game pass (if you have it) I definitely recommend downloading this game and trying it out even a year later -Edit- I say another comment saying “State of Okay” pretty accurate statement 😂

I am absolutely loving every second of it. The base building, the level up of your skills, the literal feel of losing someone on your team. It's all so amazing to me. I would've loved a few features to be added like aiming and shooting out the window GTA style; but any window to get zombs off. Animals would've been a cool addition like wild dogs you could tame or fight that could run up on zombies or cow's you coul run into in the field, horses, and even animals you can just hunt for meat like deer. A population dense area like a city would've been awesome as well. Little things like this could've made the game even better.

The only feature I would definitely add is for whoever joins my server to keep a "duplicate" of the resources (not structures or so) that we scavenge for their sessions and communities, cause this vid is right, it's pointless to play coop if you're not the host, you literally work for someone else and get nothing in return except for risking your character being killed.

Got ultimate edition last Thursday and played through most of the weekend. What I like the best so far is command center option to find new territory. Once I got the option after upgrading the command center and used it. I was given the option on the map to go to a new territory. That was late last night (after about 3 restarts of my own doing). Can't wait to see what happens when I go there tonight. If I hadn't restarted sa couple of times I would have gotten it much earlier than I did. Actual game play time it took maybe 4 hrs to get it. I think if someone concentrated on upgrading the commnad center they could probably do it in a couple fo hrs.

If I was a game developer right now I would be pissed. State of decay 2 is literally the last game but better. So if it's grindy or repetitive, what the hell the last game was like that and no one said a damn thing. It has more diverse and interesting content. Wtf else do you want from a sequel to a game that everyone thought was really good in the first place. It's not the gaming industry that's at fault. It's our growing out of video games in general. We realize that games are what they are. An escape. Yet from what. The older we get the more we have to exept that you can't escape anymore. We have responsibilities. The majority of gamers are looking for a more realistic feel to their worlds and gameplay, but that in turn limits what the developers can do to vary the story and games. It’s hard to be realistic if you use things like magic, aliens or powerful technology and artifacts to rapidly change up what’s going on. But if you don’t do that the games generally get repetitive and shit

Very well said. The idea that gamers are growing out of games is an interesting one. It would certainly explain the increasing cynicism and nitpicking that these gamers do. A new wave of younger gamers will come along soon enough and things will calm down.

Bought this yesterday, and i've gotta say the bugs haven't really hit me yet, but the frame rate is often a little jumpy. The game does get repetitive but the changes they have made from the first game are nice. Just feels like they could still have taken it a further. Definitely right about the empty feeling maps and difficult terrain. Sometimes travelling out to get supplies is an absolute chore, and that's just getting there and back!

Mid Air PS4 got better exclusives but overall the Xbox One is better. Xbox also tend to hold for more years compared to Playstation. Microsoft is better than Sony, period.

Mid Air Most of the games PS4 has Xbox has too. It's not even many exclusives out there so it does not matter that much. PS4 does not have Halo which beats some of the PS4 exclusives. Halo started the FPS genre and that's a good thing.

This game is exactly how a zombie game should be and I love it. I would love to have a custom character to feel more invested and more like I'm in the game but I have no complaints. It maybe repetitive but that's how it would be surviving a zombie infested world, trying to stay alive one day at a time and fighting zombies while searching for things you need like food and gas

Piss me of constantly blinking red on the screen- not enough metal, people are thirsty, people are tired, not enough ammo, not enough food, not enough petrol, not enough that and this...(quests also are timed, after a certain period they disappear) cant even enjoy the game. Most of the time just supplying and supplying and supplying... Do i have to play it in coop so i am not so exhausted with supplying things?

I just got the game and I love it however, when I play on I have been having some save issues were I lose lots of my stuff (on pc). On xbox the sound keeps cutting out every now and again but apart from them issues the game is great

The only two features I would definitely add is for whoever joins my server to keep a "duplicate" of the resources (not structures or so) that we scavenge for their sessions and communities, cause this vid is right, it's pointless to play coop if you're not the host, you literally work for someone else and get nothing in return except for risking your character being killed. And for other people to be able to join my server as a PVP

Also, those who hated the first game basically were just asked to hate the 2nd game. I can't understand how people who hated the first game (found it bad or mediocre) could even just think that the 2nd game wouldn't be the same, with slightly better graphics and features. Personally, I find State of Decay 2 as a good game with lots of entertaining potential. Some bad stuff in it such as game hanging, physics & collisions glitches, animations state glitches and a matchmaking system (for the open multiplayer) that can easily bring you into a game where your ping is around 200-300 (everything keeps rubberbanding around) makes it far from the best zombie game around... but it's fun and just long enough for its repetitive side to not feel too stretched thin. By the time I have destroyed the last Plague Heart from the city I chose, I only had scavenged about 1/3 of the map and switched base only once. I "could" have switched base into the 3rd tier base (the one that cost 3.5K reputation), but not only was it surrounded by tons of Plague Hearts (like 4-5 within 500m in distance), but I was finding it more efficient to simple modify my current base in multiple steps instead or rebuilding everything from scratch. To avoid loosing one my character due to the potential of problems that might come from the online feature, I only started to try to join other's game once I had dealt with the last Plague Heart so that I don't end up with one of my facility to be out of commission due to lack of 1 particular skill being lost with a character. I was right since, up to now, I have yet to find a game online that is actually playable for me. I don't say that the multiplayer is bad, but more like the Matchmaking pushes me into games that are clearly not even "good" in terms of ping.

I've been in love with the series from the first game, and my only issues are that the game is all-around too fast-paced. Quests and survivors call you up three times a minute (legitimately) and I never feel like I have enough time or physical energy to keep up with it all. Weapons break as though they are made of cardboard cut-outs at a seven year-old's birthday party. Vehicles run out of gas at least 75-150% faster than my 1972 all-steel and iron pickup truck I drove when I was sixteen. The thing is an almost literal tank, and I still only have to gas up every few days in comparison to twice to three times every day and a half. Still no character customization, which is understandable but still irritating. I say a lot of negative here, but the game is seriously a blast. It may not have the same charm that came with Lilly Ritter's commentary when you'd bring stuff back, but it still has that personalized touch with everything you do, and I still feel emotional for the characters when something happens. Not often do I feel connected to characters, but this game makes me feel plugged in and invested in the lives of these individually unique people instead of just pixels tightly woven like a seven-week-long crochet project. All around, I love this game. It plays pretty well despite its many bugs and it has me wanting to know more and do more despite my already botched sleep schedule. I look forward to the patches that polish and clean up the game. :)

I agree that the frequency of quests and survivor requests come at you very rapidly. I just see it as a realistic aspect of the game; imo it's the only challenging part of the game--you have to make decisions on how you allocate your time. I just wish these decisions had more of an impact on the game instead of feeling just like optional side quests.

Jack Hughman That's a fair point. I never really had difficulty outside of time management and I've already completed the basic game once. I'm sure more will come, but I'm worried that it won't live up to the legacy of the first, which is unfortunately all too common with sequels. (EDIT) Mind you, it's a gorgeous game with an incredibly high ceiling of development that Undead Labs can have a ball with! I truly and wholeheartedly wish this game the best as I'm a huge fan of both games.

I'm definitely getting the game. I put a couple hundred hour into State of Decay on both 360 and then did it all again on Year-One Survival Edition on PC. It remains in my top 10 favorite games list. When SoD2 was even remotely discussed by Undead Labs, I was looking forward to 2 and was following the news around it. I don't get hyped for games, but I do look forward to trying games out all the time because it's my hobby and passion. On a $30 game from Undead Labs and Microsoft, this is a steal.

It's not that buggy... only bugs i've encountered are the gates animation showing them open when they are closed and the rare chance that your car gets launched into the air and smashes into the ground when you crash into specific things...but you can fix destroyed vehicles and still get stuff out the boot so ya know, just take a repair kit like a normal person.
