As far as I'm concerned, Virginia stands above all other eastern states as to beautiful scenery, cheerful atmosphere and love of life!

As a Virginian I can say half of that is true the cheerful atmosphere only exists in the eastern half of Virginia. The western half is still confederate

For the record, this song was only adopted in the 2010s. It was designed as a more politically correct replacement for the old state song.

​​​@@eunaekim9216 In my elementary school music concerts we used to sing Shenandoah (replacing "Missouri" with "Potomac") and then sang Our Great Virginia once it was adopted, I never even heard the song before Shenandoah, but I remember someone telling me that we didn't have it because it was racist

​@@-Teague- Carry Me Back to Old Virginny was written by a free black New Yorker, but had the word "darkie" in it and talks about a master as well as the character's labor (obviously portrayed as a slave) so it didn't age well. Especially with the increasing diversity of Northern Virginia and military transplants to Hampton Roads.
