The problem is that the tentative contract isn't CLOSE to being a "yes" vote. The first thing I'd expect is for the starting CCA wage to rise to $23. I would vote "no" on any contract which offers less. Right now, I'm at Step M, and I make.decent money, but our pay level is still not keeping up with inflation.

What I find interesting is that James Henry is the vice president of our union and allegedly had zero idea how bad this contract was. He’s also been in a union leadership appointed position since 1991. the contracts have got progressively worse. Our union dues pay him $230,000 a year. He’s saying all the right things now that the knives are out. Where has he been the last 33 years? Where has he been the last 500+ days? This goes for the entire executive council of our union? They all get paid more than any carrier but were either silent or not involved at all in this contract. We need a complete overhaul of our union leadership. James is pretending that he has nothing to do with this contract. Where was all this energy and standing on business the last 500+ days. All of the executive council need to be removed.

My office is the complete opposite, all old heads are saying hell no, and some of the young carriers are in between. If it goes to arbitration they fear we won’t get much at all, everyone deserves a raise period. Some younger carriers are having a hard time understanding that the top is making $37 hour and the bottom is making $22.13 and have to battle the carriers complaints work way more the non odl workers and have to fight management. I guess what I’m saying is some are gonna be for self because that’s how they feel the older folks already are.

As a proud APWU Member, my concern is the LC TA if ratified, will influence the other Postal Union contracts by binding the hands of our otherwise excellent negotiators by setting unreasonable limits not only to what management will agree to, but to what arbitrators will award us because of the precedent Renfro has set. In other words, your TA not only screws our Letter Carriers, but it screws all Postal Workers, including MANAGEMENT, because management pay is based on our hourly rates. Think carefully about your TA and please vote wisely.

Starting pay should be area dependent. If you're in an urban area you can go work at fast food and make the same. Saying you should start at $25 an hour in Frankfurt and San Diego makes no sense. One city high school students make $20 an hour and the other they make $12 an hour. Top pay should be around $44 an hour or the same as UPS which is $49 an hour. The idea they never say this is frustrating. You can make it state to state or area to area but retention rates will never get solved if middle Americans and urban city workers get paid the same starting wage.
