2:03 Virgil didn't just have nerd friends, he was friends with Larry Wade who was a drug dealer and gave him the gun he was going to use to shoot Hotstreak at the big bang.
@KaizokuSleven3 жыл бұрын
True but then again he was also trying to recruit Virgil to be part of the gang life. So were they really friends(playing devils advocate of course)

@@KaizokuSleven Vergil was being friendly and it's more one of those things where you know someone in the neighbourhood who's a menace but he's cool with you and chill. So it's not like you're actively his friend but more on good terms.

So you only understand Static from the television shows perspective. In the comics him and Richie weren't really that close of friends. Hell, even when Richie came out as gay Static literally didn't know how to handle it. Freda, really had to bring it into him that it doesn't matter if Richie was there or not He's still our friend. Also Virgil had multiple love interest.

Yea, unfortunately I was more familiar with the tv series than the OG comics. Currently trying to read those before the new versions become the staple.

I also didn't like this version of Virgil, people who didn't grow up with Milestone comics think a Shonen version works but Dwayne McDuffie created the Milestone characters to be subversions of the white male brawn over brain version of superheroes. Each of the main characters of the original Milestone characters are black intellectuals Virgil was a science nerd, Hardware was a genius engineer, Icon was a lawyer and Rocket was an aspiring writer. This is a key aspect of why those original Milestone comics resonated with me. Sorry for the rant. I was a apart of the generation who started reading comics when Milestone dropped in 93 so this is an important thing to me. Great video.

Appreciate your insight your engagement. I was born in the late 80's so I was a bit late to the rise of Milestone and Brotherman being a thing in the 90's. Luckily I was able to read some of the originals so I can bounce off what they are doing with this iteration.

This comic was good

This is my favorite version of Virgil, taking inspiration from all versions to make the definitive and best version. Nick was the perfect man for the job, such a visionary artist. The only thing I’m not really feeling right now is the suit. I understand it’s a callback to his OG suit, but I honestly just prefer the cartoon’s version a lot more. Hopefully he gets a version of that in season 2.

I feel you. Personally, I like it because it takes from the original concept and brings a bit of freshness. Yet! I understand the nostalgia factor of the TV show

felt out of character for Static or anyone whos supposed to be a hero to literally almost kill a kid in the middle of school I get it but seems weird.The comic feels like they're making him an anime character not original

Right! Shit went left field. The main artist, his style is very influenced by manga art so I'm guessing the writing followed suit.

Vita Ayala had NO IDEA how to write Virgil. All she seems to care about is using him to push her politics as her mouth piece. Icon and rocket is the only really good book sadly.

I gotta catch up on both series because I want to binge the issues instead of waiting month for a release.

Well done 👍 I saw a copy of Static#1 and looked it, maybe now I pick it up just for the read.

Appreciate you for considering my review on it. I'm going to do an update for the series so far soon since there's 5 issues out now. Stay tuned

Felt too much like "My Hero Acedamia" and Virgil seems more like a moody teenage girl than his happy go lucky self.
@KaizokuSleven3 жыл бұрын
Virgil has always been a optimist but I definitely hear you about the My Hero Academia feel. It's very Anime inspired

I hate the manga art style

It's not bad, it just doesn't really fit western comic story telling.

After reading the first 2 issues now of this season so to speak, I dig the art, but the writing is average. Like it's moving too slow for me and I want to see the jovial light hearted hero. On a sidenote about his love interest: in the og comics he did like black women, but he ended up with Frieda, but I get what you mean seeing a character pass a possible better love interest for another
@KaizokuSleven3 жыл бұрын
Yea, the writing thus far isn't all to rave about. I'm aware of their relationship in the past,. Maybe they're prepping him to be with Caroline down the line. Yet that would mirror the typical anime/manga aspect of "falling in love"
@kobebrewster25493 жыл бұрын
@@KaizokuSleven that could be it they could be prepping him to be with Caroline or maybe there'll be a sub storyline where he'd had to pick. Because Daisy also played a love interest in the past. So there's 3 possible ones
