Three Sisters - Mansion One
There was once a single family home that stood on this large piece of property, it was likely a ranch style bungalow built in the 60s with a very large backyard. I imagined it with many large older trees in a relatively peaceful neighbourhood.
Fast forward to 2004/05 when the property was bought and replaced with three large McMansions. The Mansions were lived in by the same extended family, the developers who bought the land and built the homes.
Today the houses sit awaiting demolition along with the neighbouring property. Unfortunately vandals have found the area and frequent the homes with the intention of destruction and I have seen how they have gradually become more and more destroyed over the last few months.
The buildings will be replaced with townhouses, up to 70 of them which will give a few more families a home in this ever rapidly growing region.
Today we will be exploring one of these large homes. Let me know what you think of it down in the comments below!

The common theme in Canada seems to be knocking down homes and building condos in its place. Property values between 5 and 50 million? Is everyone in Canada a millionaire lol? Upstairs laundry has been a thing for 20+ years. Makes more sense. Lastly, love your videos. Very in depth.

The country and especially this area is growing rapidly and there isn't much empty land left so redevelopment has taken priority. It sucks actually but i don't know of a better solution. The average price of a home in this area is about $1 million, so housing is unaffordable for many people, it's a real problem. I don't know where all the wealthy people are coming from but it could be through immigration policies. It makes sense to put the laundry room where most of the clothes are i guess! Thank you very much for the comment!!

I do like the idea of a second floor laundry room. Makes a lot of sense. Of course seeing the size of the place, they probably had multiple laundry rooms. It's sad to see such grand homes be demolished for higher density housing, and even though they are slated for destruction, I still hate seeing the vandalism.
@StaticSpaces

Ya, i hate seeing the vandalism as well. To be honest though i find these houses built after 2000 all look the same and don't have much architectural merit and don't consider them to be a big loss in those terms. I know lots of people will disagree with me but that's ok. Yes a second floor laundry room does make sense, no lugging the laundry up and downstairs for no good reason. Glad you enjoyed this one CTG and thanks a lot for commenting!!

What a beautiful home, very elegant and grand without being gaudy. Love all the rooms especially the kitchen. So much extra space in basement. And the staircase was stunning. I dislike that certain people think they have the right to take a baseball bat or whatever and destroy property. Twisted thinkers. And what a huge waste of resources to tear down these incredible homes to build ugly townhomes. I guess it’s greed that motivates some of these developers. Thank you for this tour.

"Higher density housing" - in other words, some developer purchased the property to destroy a beautiful home and landscaping, build ugly and over-priced sardine-sized condo-projects, and make more money on the same-sized parcel of land! Was hoping to see you eat some chicken "kiwa" soup for the ending! (or did you say chicken gia?) Either way, it must be some sort of chicken-tomato-based... Add some fresh veggies from the freezer too!
@StaticSpaces

Chicken Quinoa, sounds pretty good anyway. Ya IDK, we need more housing so it is inevitable i guess, also single detached homes are unaffordable to most these days. I don't know what the better solution is....maybe a housing crash but then we will still need to build more to meet the demands. I don't like any of the options TBH. Thanks a lot for the comment Bill!! PS, although the soup was probably still fresh, i don't eat food that's abandoned 😂

It's a very darn shame how the house got demolished in the state it was in. I guessing that the demolition crew had to hire a person with two pumps to get all that gross water out of the basement. It takes a while to pump out a ton of water from a flooded basement. It depends on how deep the water is in the basement and how powerful your pump is to pump all that water out.

Hi James This house was beautiful once upon a time. It’s so sad to see what these vandals did to this lovely house. Why did they have to destroy those beautiful kitchen cabinets. I think it’s a good idea to have laundry room on second floor. All the clothes are up there and the towels. Just makes life easy. It’s good you had your boots with you but I think a boat would have been better to wade thru. It’s like the owners walked away and never came back. It’s very upsetting to see what goes on in these abandon houses. I know there are 2 more homes in that 3 house neighborhood. Ethan showed us both before and after of all 3. Well James you have delivered the goods yet again. Really good photography and narration. Thank you! By the way are you still on your road trip? Stay safe and well.❤👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Common theme in Alberta …knocking down good homes and building 3-4 level infills, converting Alberta into another Vancouver, crowding ppl onto same lot as a financial gain for City of Calgary/Edmonton, more money in their pockets for property taxes. Condos /apartments are much smaller

Sometimes they make a good profit and others they just get market, really depends on the situation i think. The laundry on the second floor makes good sense since almost everything that needs to be washed is up there. It makes more sense than to drag the laundry down the second and first floors to the basement and then all the way back up after they're cleaned. I like gray, I like brown, I like white, but not everywhere and not all together. It's a nice house but the color scheme makes it appear cold. I can't go for that stairway with no stair backs; it makes me faintly dizzy when I use them. Our library has that type of stairs, made of gray granite and worth your life to use them when they are wet and slippery. It's a cut above the standard McMansion but still all pressed wood and veneers instead of solid wood, stone, and plaster. I know, I'm old fashioned, but still.
@StaticSpaces

Hi James! I quite liked this one. Not usually a fan of the big fancy mansions, but this one was quite nice. The railing around the second floor hallway was amazing the size of it. Can’t believe the house was only built in 2004. That was actually the year I left school 😂 If those kitchen cupboard doors were ripped off and ruined that’s terrible. The style of the outside of the house looked very like that of a nursing home near me. Terrible it’s being demolished for smaller cheaper housing but sadly this is what the world has come to. People need a roof over their head.

I always wonder why people moved. If there was no buyer and it's sitting empty, does that mean it was a foreclosure?
@StaticSpaces
@StaticSpaces Жыл бұрын
No, the backstory of this home is in the video as well as the description. The property is being redeveloped into higher density housing. I don't think i have ever explored a property that has been foreclosed upon. Thanks very much for watching!!

@@StaticSpaces By "higher density" do you mean apartments?

No, i think this one is being replaced by townhouses or maybe stacked condos but the last information i saw was old and the proposal may have changed

Not to sound callous, nor do I condone such behavior; but I don't see vandalism here (spray painted walls, etc), more like looting, which could be from whoever bought the property to demolish it? The kitchen was probably all stainless steel, worth some bucks, also looks like wiring was ripped out of the walls (likely copper). If it's going to be ripped down anyway, I prefer to see good stuff re-used (how about all that granite, marble, etc?) or recycled

vandalism comes in many forms and that house had lots of it. The "vandals" were not trying to save and salvage... they are destroyers with no care to anyone but their own egos. To tear apart cabinets, smash door windows and throw it all down the stairs... vandalism and worse.
@StaticSpaces
@StaticSpaces Жыл бұрын
It was definitely vandalism because everything that was taken was just thrown down the stairs into the basement. Also when companies remove things like cupboards they usually do it carefully, but these cupboard doors were ripped off and are now unusable. I can understand why you might think that though. Thanks very much for the comment!!

I agree with you Breezy, there were no signs of care being taken with the materials at all. Thanks a lot for your input!!

James . So pleased to see you were wearing rubbers . I know you swiped that beef out of the freezer . At the price of it now , you would be a fool not to ! Those cabinets in the kitchen are solid cherry and I would personally love to castrate who ever smashed them ! Great vid as always !!

I didn't look at the kitchen cabinets that closely but how can you tell just from the video they are solid cherry? I would be honestly surprised if they weren't the usual MDF you see in places today. Thanks a lot for the comment John!!
