Newark, NJ has 2 rail stations. The well known Newark Penn station and the lesser known Broad street station. The Broad street station is home to NJ transit commuter rail operations for points west with the exception of the Raritan Valley line which originates out of Newark Penn and the Port Jervis, NY (Metro North -NY) which originates out of Hoboken, NJ.
Broad street was built and operated by the Lackawanna railroad later the Erie - Lackawanna and finally by NJ Transit.
Newark light rail runs from under Newark Penn to Broad street.
