Thank you very much for the tutorial. I know how to make atmospherics like a pro in other games similar to this one, but in this one the three dimensions makes my habits for finding ways to optimize space by condensing designs makes my OCD go on fire. Watching your video helped me, but I won't lie, the amount of space you used was killing me.

Oh my yes. This one is all spread out to make it easy to read. When I'm pressed for space, there's a lot more squishing can go on. You want me to make a vid showing "how small can we make a furnace ?"

Hi Duke, thought you might like an update. After a few explosions, which were all my own fault, did my first smelt this morning and all worked perfectly. The pace of your tutorial video made it so much easier to refer back to when the construction process became a little foggy. Have left feedback for your Steam workshop scripts and a little gift. Keep up the great work and looking forward to the next video 😀👍

Have a question for you Duke. Should the furnace only be used outside of your base ? Currently set up on Mars and decided to close the furnace in so that storms don't stop me using it. It's in a 8x6 room with just Mars atmosphere but gets really toasty trying to make the fancy ingots.
@duke_euphoria2 жыл бұрын
"should" is a tricky one to answer. The furnace is going to get warm, plenty warm, and that heat has to go somewhere. Ideally you'd pipe the exhaust gases through insulated pipe into, either an uninsulated tank set outside where you let them cool and then filter the gases, or an insulated tank so you can feed the hot gas to some stirling engines for extra power. If you're venting the furnace straight into your big room, it will indeed get pretty toasty in there! Simple plan for that is possibly just venting outside through some insulated pipe.
@want2dropout2 жыл бұрын
Hi and thanks for the reply. Have re jigged the room walls so that the frame housing the furnace is outside plus the waste tank is as well. Changed the waste tank pipe going to my filtration for insulated pipe. Also put in an active vent above the area in front of the furnace pulling in outside atmosphere through a passive vent on the other side of the room. Ran the furnace for Astroloy this morning and the room temperature stayed normal 🙂. Made a little addition to the system with a Pipe Analyser between the mixing valve and the fuel pump with a pressure readout on a console. Find it makes it easier to avoid mixing too much fuel and raise the pipe pressure too high.
@duke_euphoria2 жыл бұрын
@@want2dropout Nice. Sounds like a good solution! I often have a tank in between fuel mix and furnace. Can read the pressure off that, and even build a little automation to make sure tank is always full enough, But not too full...
@want2dropout2 жыл бұрын
@@duke_euphoria had considered a buffer tank but was much easier to fit the analyser in. Filling tanks and pipes too much was becoming a speciality of mine 😁

Great Tutorial, nice code. Easy to build furnace, far better than a manual one. Sadly not fuel efficant and a bit slow, but for that simple design u cant expect more i guess. One important qeustion (cause i use it in coop): is it possible to make it boom? Or is it absolut idiot proof? Great work, keep it up. Subbed here and will try to catch you on twitch. :)
@duke_euphoria2 жыл бұрын
Many thanks! Aye, 'tis Not swift for some alloys, and the fuel efficiency is _dire_ but hey, with added efficiency comes added complexity. It's not too awful if you scavenge the waste gasses and filter them. As far as i know sealing the furnace inside a block makes it utterly unboomable.So far I've not managed to explode it at all, even when trying to...

Hmm, It's made Waspalloy Ok every time I've tried so far... Which planet are you on ? Things to check: Have you got a supply of coolant gas ? If your coolant tank has run out it won't be able to drop the temperature as needed. Is the ingredient mix correct ? Is your fuel mix correct, approx 66% H2, 33% 02 if those are all fine try dumping out the furnace, (set the dial to position zero and hit the Go button) and start from nothing...
