Today I do some refinement to the ground control and then try to nut out the pressure fed lequid engine with some leaning achieved.

One possible automation/energy saver for the rockets would be to have a chip which monitors the rocket control housing. When the rocket reaches its destination, it will turn on the scanners/miners (if appropriate), turning them off when scanning is finished or the mine storage is full (or the rocket starts to move again). Could potentially also trigger a recall if power is below a certain threshold.

Thanks for doing the investigative work on this elusive engine for all of us. I have no idea how you managed to ignite the fuel inside the pipe. Maybe you should have Walter inspect the pipes very closely for the next test. PS: I am not mad at you for using Walters as test subjects anymore. It appears to be some kind of Hydra that causes two more to appear whenever one is eliminated, which raises the fun exponentially

Previous episode it set the heat exchanger to 100 and forgot about it. That might have had something to do with it.

If you’re going to be mixing the liquid fuel into one tank, you might want to add some code (if not already there) that prevents the unloading pumps running with the umbilical connected to the rocket. Otherwise might pump mixed fuel back into the individual tanks… and that would be a ‘oh s**t’ moment! 😂

Good to know that its a bad thing to hook both fuel pipes up to the engine😮 I do wonder if you can heat up a furnace using the heat exchanger 🤔 Its a silly way but throwing the cats into that furnace sounds alot like karma to me, they should stop mocking you. Must say Mick, these are great experiments so far, very informative. Have you ever thought about live streaming?

Most of the heat was because the fuel combusted in the pipes. Not sure how much of it was caused by the heat exchanger, but it got it above 300C pretty quick. Then again, it only had to warm a few pipes worth of liquid.

I might need to turn down the heat exchanger before fueling again. There was only gas in the pipe so it heats up quickly. Testing this one could get explody. That sounds like a Walter job.

I haven't finished yet, but I scrolled through to see if you did this yet and I didn't see it. One of the new patch notes is you can now FINALLY open the Stationpedia WHILE programming! No more need to exit the programming screen to open it. Not sure if this works just on the computer, laptop, or both (haven't tested it myself yet), but we all have years of a wasteful habit to break (I completely forgot the last 2 times I played until I saw you not do it lol).

Idk how useful this info is to you. The rocket Ic housing can only detect what’s in the rocket it’s in. It cant write out (the screws won’t detect) anything outside. But you CAN write to the housing so for your go nofo chip you can send a logic to the chip to prevent any form of starting

didnt tested it but cant u use a memory unit inside the rocket? or write onto the rocket ic's stack from the outside or just write to the rockets cable channel0

@@dbmaster46446 no you can’t install a memory chip or a logic I/o either, however you can read/write logic to a part inside it. To me it’s good the inside chip can’t see out cause then I can have cmds as lb or sb and not interfere with the other rockets. Atm I’m testing an auto miner script that gets a “go” from a ground control chip via s autominerhousing Setting go, it plots a course, travels mine fill up plot a home course then lands for unload/refuel. So far the only problem I’ve had with it is “relaunch”

@@cowsareevil7514 the other advantage I’ve found cause of it is I can use lb and sb commands so I don’t have to set up pins . As I said I CANT detect outside, it won’t interfere with other rockets. My question is why? Are rockets like a dif tent channel/instance? If so, how can you set that up with base networks where you can read/write in but it can’t read/write out? It would be a nice way to set up sub networks like green house network atmospherics network etc

On/Off of the pump should be based on its settings. If its abs settings is lets say < 0.01, just turn off. Imo no need for approx as its done by ratio-setting calculation itself.

I already thought about using nitrogen for pressuring the fuel mix but it is a very bad idea. There is only a very little area where pressure and temperature let's your fuel being liquid and the nitrogen a gas. This won't work. I think the additional problem is that the burn won't be as efficient with a nitrogen gas in the fuel mix becouse the engine takes volume of liquid and gas I think at least. So next problem with this bad bad idea is that you would use up the nitrogen and have to fill it back up again only for making thrust worse. That sucks. May you know shadow drake who is doing a Europa playthrough at the moment and I think it was him who even tried using n2o for the pressure fed liquid engine but it was a catastrophy as one would expect. Then he managed to use the heat exchanger with premixed fuel to make it run. Hope it was helpful to prevent you from doing the nitrogen stuff.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but won't warming the fuel also increase ISP and thrust? The challenge is limiting the heat exchange to keep the fuel as a liquid and to keep it from igniting.

Good point. I should be able to use the heat exchanger to heat the fuel to the boiling point of the oxygen for max pressure. If I overheat it, I will flash boil the O2 and then have to make more rocket parts.

​@@cowsareevil7514 The startup is the tricky part. You'll need to smoothly turn on both the pumps and the heat so it doesn't overpressurize or overheat. Once you get it the first time, the system should always be charged with warm and pressurized fuel (as long as you don't run dry).

Great episode once again. Just a question. Are there other chassis parts for the rockets that have a different outer shape? The rockets do look a little..um..like something you might find in a ladies handbag. Hope you are doing well

mick is this save uploaded anywhere yet ? really want to play on the new save and experiment , can you add a list of any mods /scripts and save location please . I have the old ones from europa and vulcan or venus but little wonky after the new updates . and love your stuff mick .

Uploading saves has been disabled. Most of the scripts are custom to this base so I havent uploaded them, the complex scripts are on the workshop.
