It's time to fix the thing I got wrong last time and then get some auto mining underway.

Idea for the tracker/atmos tablet: put a chip in there to automatically flip it over to the tracker when outside the range that the beacon automatically turns on and back for when inside it. Maybe do some extra coding to have it only check when the tablet is turned on and not have it loop for the duration.

Maybe you could do a simple code update, where the printer's IC would check if its printer is active, it would store it, finish the loop, jump to the start, yield and then compare it with whether it's active this time and if it's not (and was last time), it would turn the printer off. Yes, of course, it would turn it off whenever it makes the last of any thing, but that could be sorted by the two digital arrows each printer has. Say, if you change the recipe to a "neighbouring" one and back again.

Switching the printers off always seems to happen at the wrong time. Like my phone, the screen saver will always shut the screen off about 0.1 seconds before I press anything every time.

I would incorporate a room occupied sensor or I think there's a motion sensor, along with code that checks if the printers are active. That way they aren't switched off if you're in the room and using them.

Saw a contraption using the hot output of the centrifuge the other day : link it to a furnace, let the said furnace open, back pressure to 5MPa and let it live. Every ore smelts when the centrifuge spits out. I applied this technique in my Mars playthrought, works like a charm.

​@@cowsareevil7514its actually quite long to build the pressure into the furnace, but once its at 5MPa its rock solid. I have a vidéo of it if you wanna check it.

Could store the centrifuge exhaust gasses in an insulated tank. Maybe have overpressure protection on the tank to vent off excess. Centrifuge would keep the tank hot. Pump hot gases into the furnace as needed. That said, I've never built a centrifuge or recycler. I've not gotten a normal play through that far.

Since you run a few mods already, I can really recommend the advanced tablet mod. It makes left click switch the active cartridge. It makes the advanced tablet actually useable

One possible path to bringing your power generation more in line with consumption would be to add a stirling engine on the exhaust from the gas centrifuge. It might not be the most optimal, but it'd at least get you some additional power until you can find a better use for the exhaust.

Maybe i mighta goofed on my run but i have 3x combustion centrifuges feeding 3 stirlings - it doesnt seem that there is enough exhaust pressure to really be that big of a difference maker

I will do that from the H2 combustor. That produces a lot more heat.

The ice crushers for the fuel mix can go a _lot_ faster: A really good tip I received on the Stationeers discord a couple of updates ago was to adjust the Setting for the (non-water) ice crushers to something between 0 and 5 Deg C. A couple of updates ago, they were defaulted to 15 Deg C, so they slowly heat to temperature before actually crushing ice ... and of course the crushers with the default Setting need at least a few "bites" to process a 50 stack of ice

Would it make sense for your desired distance in the beacon script to be modified when in various weather that dramatically reduces sight? I'm sure there's something from the weather station that you could use to trigger such a change. Though that doesn't seem relevant in your current playthrough so far. :)

Another great episode! 2 questions: The centrifuge produces a load of heat - why not use it? Have you found a use for the programming chip slot in the advanced tablet?

The centrifuge produces high temperature but not much gas. It can be used but it is not much on it's own. I will use it to help heat the furnace. The tablet has no functions to control and once you connect it through the transmitter you can control it from the base, so I don't know what to do with the chip slot.

Mick, before putting ore in silo, why not have a stacker before letting output from miners go to stack to 50, it saves cargo slots (i get there is 600, but gives room if you decide to place additional miners/centrifuges)?

The centrifuge should be able to keep up and the silo only used when the centrifuge is unloading or stops for some reason.

@cowsareevil7514 for three miners i suppose 1 centrifuge will work. Tbh i get borrd of mining fast so i tend to run 8-12 miners with 3-4 centrifuges and they cant keep up with loose ore, which is why i go with a stacker before going to silo. Anyhoo, im enjoying the series...one more thing, paint the door brown on the rear entrance of your old base 😀

I setup and automatic beacon awhile ago. Did it with trigonometry to get exact distance and everything. That's the only possible way of doing it, right? Then I watch you do it and loath that your way was so much easier.

I did it that way too at first. Then changed to the KISS method for simplicity.

Some of these things with transmitters I didn't realize you could do... I use the hard suit script without the transmitter. Just for the visor safety its useful. I always mess up the transmitter configuration and can't get it to work right.

@@TianarTruegard Now would be a great time to experiment with the suit and transmitters. I've experimented with setting up safe zones using the grid coordinates to do things like open your helmet in your greenhouse if it's safe. I've had mixed results, but I'm positive the issues I've run into is my own fault.

It must be a while since I have use a packager. I missed that in the patch notes. I have not used the telescope, but that is why I am on Mars, for a little less struggle to survive and a little more experimentation.

If you’re looking for a faster way of “crushing” ice the largest vent is just about fast enough to suck up a cube worth of ice. You just need to leave enough atmosphere in the room to heat the ice and a liquid inlet just in case. Edit: Also I recon you could get some of your power back by attaching a Stiriling engine to the centrifuge.
