In order to move the rear differential ahead, I need to have perches with the centre pin hole drilled offset from the centre of the diff. I also wanted to make my own plates and them be a little longer to help with spring wrap up, which is a big problem in leaf springs and big power.
I start by using 2 1/2” square tubing with a 3/16” wall for strength, and cutting a 1.5” radius half circle so i will be able to weld as much of the surface area to the axle tubes as possible.
Then, I drill the centre pin hole 1.5” toward the rear so that the axle will sit ahead that same distance. I also weld a 4” wide plate on top of that and drill a 1/2” hole in each corner.
Next, I make another plate that will sit on top of the spring, and bolt to the bottom plate as to sandwich the leaf springs.
I will also be making a set of homemade ladder bars to bolt to the bottom of the axle tube and then bolt to the bottom of the front spring hanger, to stop any wheel hop. That video will come at a later date.
