He really makes stats look good too... sometimes I have to rewind and re-watch because I get a little distracted! All kidding aside, very useful videos for this 34 year old mom trying to finish her BA in nursing after 13 years! Makes online stats class much more reasonable to learn!

Finally a professor that actually teaches Statistics. Thank you for being methodical, logical and not rushing. Your videos will help me pass. All the professor need to have you teach them methodology to teaching stats. My professor rushes. Rushes through teaching us how to use our calculators. Its frustrating.

You were my professor for calc one back in 2015ish, im currently in a probability and stats course and it gets a bit more in depth, pdfs, cdfs, integrating to find expected values, etc. We kind of skipped over all this stuff in a chapter or two and it was what i found most confusing. Thank you for breaking it down, its not as intuitive when you just glance over all the theory in a text book and then see a question asking you to find P(A or B, but not both) especially when your just given the intersection and union symbology NOT at all for me INTUITIVE. Thank you for explaining it in a way that makes sense!

I want to say that I have devoured every minute of these lectures, and that because of Prof Leonard's patience and ability to simplify these subjects, I have cleared up many misunderstanding from my past exposures to statistics. Also, I realized my mistake in my previous posting, and that is that the computation is multiplicative and not additive. The simplest calculation is 1 minus the miss percentage of the first condition times the miss percentage of the second condition. The first calculation is %60 percent female which is a miss percentage of %40 and the second calculation is that the remaining population of 20 males is %15 blond, which is a miss percentage of .85. .60 times .85 is .34. 1 minus .34 is .66 percent.

Dear Mr. Leonard: I have a query regarding your explanation of "Law of Addition" ... as per law the values you chose the calculation would be P(A or B)= P(A)+P(B) - P(A and B) so by inserting values we have P(A or B)= 11 + 72 + 9 - 72 if I am not wrong --- kindly explain if there are same positive and negative values such as +72 and -72 ... wouldn't they cancel each other???
@Oleena_the_actuary4 жыл бұрын
You supposed to have it as (11+9+72)-72,you basically need to add up things first then subtract from the total

Regarding the blond or female problem. It seems to me that the computation should be the chance of being female PLUS the %chance of being blond from the remaining male population. But, blonds are not evenly distributed among the females and males. In a population of 50, females would be 30 (%60 of 50,) blonds would be 9 (%18 of 50,) and blond females would be 6 (%12 of 50,) leaving 3 male blonds, which means that %15 of males are blond (3 / .20.) Therefore the probability of blond or females would be %60 chance of being females plus %15 change of being blond from the remaining male population = %75 of being either blond or female. n'est-ce pas?

I know this is a really simple question but its been a while since i took a math course.....when u use the words "or" and "and" in these probability statements. ...if i am writing these out.......... i am assuming they mean the same thing as union symbol and intersection symbol...your just simplifying it so people can read it better? All my quizes i have are formulas and in not english so i want to make sure im translating in my head accurately. Thanks in advance
