This track was from 1970 and is their earliest example of the 12 bar boogie style they'd become renowned for from this time onwards. This was a stand-alone single and didn't feature on an album, much like, 'In My Chair', which managed to get to number 21 despite having no radio airplay. Which is quite a feat. 'Down the Dustpipe', reached a respectable number 5 in the UK charts. The harmonica player featured in this video is one Bob Young, who was their roadie at the time, but would become one of the main co-writers of many of the band's hits in years to come, alongside Francis Rossi. The show was, 'doing their thing', which featured up-and-coming bands of the time.

Now this is the type of quality, educated comment that I like to see on You Tube. This written by a 'true' QUO fan. Well done mate. "Down The Dustpipe" was written by an Australian man by the name of Carl Groszmann. QUO fans are eternally thankful to Carl for writing and recording the Demo at PYE Records. RIP - Carl Groszmann 2018

This was excellent an early track from 'The Quo', thank you for doing it. "Pictures of Matchstick Men" and the band themselves were used as one of the bases for 'Spinal Tap' in the 'Rockumentary' film "This is Spinal Tap".

A nice early Quo bluesy track . Earlier they were doing pyschadelic stuff such Pictures Of Matchstick men . This excerpt was from a series of shows called ' Doing their thing ' where the big bands of the day , such as Free , Deep Purple etc would do their ' thing ' , live . The shows all used the same set so well done in spotting that ..

I remember seeing Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt being interviewed by Terry Wogan on his TV programme. He said to them “people say all your singles sound the same “. Rick Parfitt leapt to his feet shouting “No no I’m not having that. They should listen to our albums” To which h Francis Rossi added “Yeah, they all sound the same as well”!! They didn’t take themselves too seriously, but as you said, they had a driving beat and a great sound. A fun band you watch. A University friend and I went to see them in Salisbury in 1972, when they weren’t very popular😢. There were about 35-40 people in a large hall, all spread out. They started playing (after a support band!) and after the first song one of the band said “you might as well fill up the front row!. We did, and after the second song Francis Rossi said “well there aren’t many of you, but you’re all right”! They played their hearts out for us for two hours, and my mate commented to me as we left “It was all there, just like the records” - it certainly was!

Gold!!! Thanks. Nice you choose the earlier stuff. They started in 1962. Status Quo. Love it! Backwater/Just take me, two songs belong together, also a long one together, from the album Quo, maybe the next one? Mystery song, the studio version is also a looong version, you will like much.😊 A third suggestion : From the earlier albums, Railroad live at the BBC, from the album Dogs of two heads, it is the last song on the studio album. Blues, Boogie Hardrock. You will be surprised!

Great track, with the unofficial 5th member of Quo, Bob Young, on harmonica. I agree with others that you have to do Pictures of Matchstick Men. The album that was on was the first album I ever bought, for the princely sum of one dollar!

Status Quo is almost fun. In their early years they have psychedelic influences, later more rock in then more poppy stuff. They can described in the best way after an ironic album title of them: "In Search Of The Fourth Chord".

"Down the Dustpipe" was released in 1970 not 1968. This LIVE recording was performed in Sweden in 1970. kzbin.info/www/bejne/i33XpnSLdpqkbc0 Of course, the original studio version sounds better than this LIVE version. Another great QUO song from 1970 is "In My Chair" Apart from their constant Touring playing LIVE, both "Down the Dustpipe" and "In My Chair" are responsible for keeping QUO afloat financially between their Psychedelic Era and the "Piledriver" album released in December 1972 on their new label "Vertigo" RIP - Rick Parfitt RIP - Alan Lancaster

Nice bluesy number from Quo. Exceptional live band. It's not from the OGWT as there was no audience in that show as far as I know. How about trying something more mellow from Quo - Unspoken Words from Piledriver is gorgeous. Cheers.

A couple of suggestions: Billy Thorpe & The Aztecs - Most People I Know (Audio + Video merge 2024) Mondo Rock - Come Said The Boy (1983) (AU) (Extended Video Version) Refreshed Video And if you do decide to get back to Jimmy And The Boys, the video ''Products Of Your Mind'' (nzoz1980) is where you should go next. A good and very rare picture is in email. I'm more keen for ''Most People I Know'' and ''Come Said The Boy'' at this stage. No rush.

After Coghlan and Lancaster left QUO the band lost its grunt and balls. Apart from "Rock 'til You Drop" in 1991, which was a brilliant masterpiece, the mid-late 80's and 90's were fairly embarrassing. It wasn't until 2002's "Heavy Traffic" that there was a return to great Rock music for Francis and Rick. From 2002 up to 2013, Francis and Rick magically produced some of the best Post- Frantic Four albums. 2019's "Backbone" had a few very good songs and the rest were fairly pedestrian and lame. After Lancaster left the Band, the Courtcase should've ruled that Rick and Francis weren't allowed to use the name STATUS QUO. Lancaster said "it was like having one of your children abducted and abused" Lancaster formed the Nucleus of the Band in 1962 when he recruited Francis Rossi. RIP - Rick "Reg" Parfitt RIP - Alan "Nuff" Lancaster
