4500 times is the greatest driving tune of time from the best live band of the 70's period!!!!!

They used to do a 20 minute version in their live gigs. Absolutely brilliant.

I remember the first time I heard this song. I played drums and a friend from school told me he played guitar and wanted to jam. I bought the album soon after. I was about 13 years old and we had a great duet happening. Nearly all Quo songs with harmonies. We thought we were fantastic 😂. I’ve probably listened to this track 1,000 times. Or possibly even 4,500 times 🙏❤️🔥. FANTASTIC LIVE 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Thank you for playing this ,i had almost forgotten this one, i am 70 and grew up with THE QUO, yes that is how they should be addressed . you are correct there was a lot of head banging to the boys back in the early seventies.

Quo had a period during the early 70's of being quite an instrumental group. Sure, they'd release the usual 3 minute songs as singles, but when it came to their albums from the early to mid 70's, you were guaranteed quite a bit of instrumental work, especially in the closing song. It was a trend that a lot of bands did, back in the day, and Quo were no exception. 'Roadhouse Blues', was the one from Piledriver a year earlier and, 'Slow Train', the one from a year later. The album version of this song is just shy of 10 minutes long, but the live versions go on for much longer. They do a revised version of this song in 1991 on the, 'Rock til You Drop', album that was more in keeping with the live version, which was always a fan favourite. The worst part of this song is that it has to fade out when it does. Which is why the live version is so popular. I've always been a bit of an all-rounder when it comes to Quo. I can listen to any period of their music simply because I'm in the frame of mind that, whatever they're doing was of it's time. It's where they were at any given juncture of their musical career. Once you bear that in mind, then you've a better understanding of what they were doing, (or trying to do), at the time. The early 70's was when they were proving themselves, (more to themselves than anyone else), that they could make a success of it by playing the kind of music they wanted to write/perform. Luckily for them, it fitted like a glove for the time period. Once the late 70's came along with music trends changing, they felt the need to adapt to a more, 'mainstream', way of playing, but still with the same signature trademark. They didn't always get it right, and in retrospect, you often find yourself wondering what they were thinking by releasing some of their work, but again you have to think about it in the context of what popular music was doing at the time, with them trying their best to stay somewhat relevant to the music scene. One great thing about Quo was that they never really took themselves too seriously, (other than perhaps, during the early 70's), and enjoyed what they did. Their songs, generally, had a, 'feel good', factor to them than was kind of universal. You knew it was them as soon as you heard the song start.

Any real Quo fan if they go back that far, will admit that 4500 Times is a fan’s favourite. Quo were a performance band, first and foremost. The closest anyone could hear Quo the way Quo were meant to be heard is LIVE! So the 1976 Live album is the closest to being at the Frantic Four live.

Trve dat! Quo was the prototype of a live band! Especially if one considers that from 'Ma Kelly's.. ' to 'Live' all records have been recorded live! RAOTW was the first record they used multiple channels. And the result sounds horrible

Great to know your reactions have returned and your problems are resolving, this is a great Qou number but i honestly think "slow train" is their best extended song, i also agree with the view that Blue for you was their last really good album.

Only just ‘found’ you by chance. Huge follower of Quo since the very beginning. Loved your reaction to Forty Five Hundred Times. So many great tracks from those 70’s albums. A list as long as your arm. If I were to pick one right now that I’d like you to react to. It’s already been mentioned here, I’d go with Slow Train off the album ‘Quo’. Never understood why that was never performed live. I certainly never saw them perform it. So, if you get the time, Slow Train, PLEASE. You have another ‘follower’ 👍🏻😊

By the end of the 70s they’d extended and perfected this into a 22-minute live monster. You’re right about the transitions- that’s what makes many of the earlier Quo tracks so great.

The first released live version is extended to 17 minutes on 1977's Live!, recorded at the Glasgow Apollo. A 20-minute version was performed at the NEC Arena in 1982 at a charity concert for The Prince's Trust, with Coghlan's replacement Pete Kircher reinterpreting the original drum parts. Have the album and cd so no problem sound wise, for me any way.

If you think that version is good then you should really check out the 1982 version at the NEC Birmingham because that version version is 21 minutes long and blows this version away. To me, it is the definitive version and has never been improved.

Quo was imo the best live boogiewoogie rockband of the 70s/early 80s. After like 85, they were still good, but almost a tribute coverband of themselfes. Stick to the "Frantic Four" original linup and you got steamhammer rock from the highest grade.
