Thank you everyone for your fantastic feedback to my videos. I really appreciate it and it drives me along to spend the hours on this. Working on footage of For You and also the process of baking the tapes, the MCI tape machine that was as old as the tapes and made all the transfers possible.

Sounding great, I've loved Quo since the early 80s but those 70s albums just absolutely rock...

Hi John. Just a big thank you for documenting the process. This is the nearest Quo will get to a Classic Albums program. You have brought this album to life again. Thanks for all your hard work.

I just knew it would be important to document this and also a big thank you to my daughter Sophie for picking up the camera as often as she could on weekends and when she got back from school. I really appreciate your kind words on the remix.

Really enjoying these videos, so interesting to see how the tracks are made up and how you’ve made the whole album sound so much better, the drums and bass especially. I never really listened to this album properly because of the thin sound but now I’m listening to it and appreciating how good the songs are and how fantastic the playing is. Thank you!

That's brilliant to read your feedback, take a listen to the new clip of the drums and bass on RAOTW that I've just posted.

This is one of my favorite Quo songs, Alan wrote great songs. He wrote 4 symphonies apparently. Anyway, you have spend so much effort and time remixing that I decided to get the vinyl version. I bet it's gonna sound great on my good old AR 10 PI's! If they go, I go. :-) Thanks for the video's and showing the world how good The Frantic Four really were. O John, another thing, I have always been wondering what the name of that 12 string guitar is which Richard plays on the Quo and Never too late albums. Sounds so great! I always found it a pity that he never used it again after Never too late. Brilliant album by the way. Thanks!

When Phonogram insisted in bringing in an outside producer i always thought Pip Williams was an awful choice, for me he never understood the big guitar sound that Quo had live ,although he had got the message by the time of the Whatever you want album. I thought the guitars on Over the edge were near perfect for the band. A whole album produced by Roger Glover would of been interesting considering the sound on Wild side of life. Keep up the good work.

Alan Lancaster 7/02/1949 - 26/09/2021 Bassist/Singer/Songwriter/ Producer/Genius of STATUS QUO fame, has died aged 72 of Multiple Sclerosis at his Sydney home, surrounded by his family. Born in London, he moved to Australia in 1976 after marrying his beautiful wife Dayle. Alan wrote and co-wrote many classic Rock songs The 9 1/2 minute Psych/Rock song "Is It Really Me, Gotta Go Home" was written by the Genius of Alan Charles Lancaster. Ma Kelly's Greasy Spoon album 1970 on the Astor / Pye Label. Produced by the late / great John Schroeder. Anyone who met Nuff would know first hand what a beautiful, sweet and charming gentleman he was. I had the pleasure of socialising with Alan at a few gigs in the late 80's, at some of his gigs with The Lancaster Bombers and The Lancaster / Brewster Band and The Party Boys, the latter having 2 Chart Topping Hits. " Hold Your Head Up " by Argent and " He's Gonna Step On You Again " by John Kongos. Alan produced a multi-platinum selling album for Pianist Roger Woodward. The Party Boys’ leader Paul Christie told TMN that as a rock bassist who played with a plectrum, Lancaster was one of the true greats. “He played a Kramer bass with an aluminium neck, not a wooden one. As a result he sounded like an industrial hammer bashing on steel. “He was truly phenomenal. The Party Boys needed two drummers in the line-up, it was the only way to match him.” Vale Alan Lancaster

I somehow managed to overlook this one, which is strange, as it's the one I'd been looking forward to the most. Again, a fabulous insight, particularly as this track is unlike anything Quo had done previously. I'm a big fan of Alan's material, anyway, but, for me, he really stepped things up with his songwriting contributions to RAOTW.

I think that "Hard time" is a very great song too. I like your new mix with the horns in the background, because in the original version, i must prick up one's ears the horns. Same thing for "too far gone" with horns too? :))
@johneden-producer46145 жыл бұрын
I appreciate your feedback on the remix. Yes Rene both had horn arrangements done by Pip who produced the original recordings.

Hi John, thank you very much for these fascinating videos. Can’t wait for the next one. Although the song Rocking All Over The World was the reason why I became a Quofan, I never really liked the album due to its rather poor sound. That changed with your remix of course which gave me a great new listening experience. I have always wondered why the tracklist of the remixed album was different from the original album. What was the reason for this change?
@johneden-producer46145 жыл бұрын
Wow I'm so glad the remix gave you a new listening experience that makes all the effort for me so worth while. A Great question about the running order . I just wanted to change the flow and give fans a different experience, like a new album in a way. Also we no longer had to deal with vinyl limitations such as inner grove distortion that always played a technical role in the last track of each album side.

I do like John's remix, but also appreciate the fresh and light Pip Williams sound on RAOTW and IYCSTH. Pip really seemed to understand Quo's musicianship and let each instrument seperate, so you could really hear each one.

Rubbish song. Continued the slide for Alan's songwriting. After his best in QUO and ON THE LEVEL. Never wrote a decent song after. Too much "small man", bitter divorce ballix! However, kudos John for making this remotely listenable and showing the work involved.
@kees666 Жыл бұрын
In your opinion. For me, this is some really sophisticated writing on Alan’s part and shows a clear progression.
