I always thought the Rock Til You Drop version was trying too hard.....but this, this is food for my soul. What a catchy tune. Beautiful to hear all the parts like this John. I hope you still read these comments. To hear you talk with love of what you wanted from this 'revisit' just warms my heart....I need to go and wash my face I'm so emotional. Brilliant, John, you smashed it!

Love it, John - that last chorus 10:30 onwards is just pure and utter Quo at their best and I love the way you've just let them "jam it out" to the end as it were. I could listen to that section for hours! A while ago I read a review of the "...Island" ending which said "No Other Band could make those three chords sound that good!" and that's exactly what happens here. Sure anyone could probably play it; but play it like that? No way. Wonderful stuff!

One of the good things about the remix of this album is hearing the banter and the extended endings to the tracks etc. Great stuff.

I'm so happy to hear that

Interesting how that isolated riff at 1:55 sounded like the riff later used in Breaking Away 2 years later

Really interesting insight John. Loved the riff at the beginning and offers subtle depth. I'm also thinking that riff was perhaps the genesis of "Breaking away"? Brilliant stuff.

Fantastic work and insight John, thank you! Always loved the melody and sentiment in this song, and now with the guitars made more prominent, it’s just so driving and raw!

Fantastic, thanks so much for sharing. Liked the doggy pics too - think I'll transpose their faces onto the 'Dog of Two Head Album'. See? Everything comes full circle.

Great! Rick`s extra guitar sounds interesting and Alan`s Bass is really fat! Although Andy`s piano is somewhere underneath, it`s this fantastic interplay that shows best in the ending of the song. Thanks again!

Hello Wolfgang yes a great extended ending

Another great vid. Thanks John. So the big question is, what other Quo album should be remixed? Personally I think it should be 'Quo'. Great album, but it sounds a little bit sharp on the top end. It needs to be a little fatter on the bottom end.
@johneden-producer46145 жыл бұрын
And the big answer would need to come from Universal and not only that where are the multi track tapes ?
@calvertphoto5 жыл бұрын
@@johneden-producer4614 Rather concerning to hear that no-one knows where the master tapes are! Or is that normal the case with other bands? Out of interest, who's idea was it to do the remix on RAOTW - and were any other Quo albums considered for remixing too?
@ayeesea5 жыл бұрын
Not lost in the fire, hopefully!
@johneden-producer46145 жыл бұрын
David Calvert I didn’t say no one knows I just asked an open question because finding multi track tapes from 40 plus years ago isn’t always easy. The 1/4 stereo masters where probably thought by many in labels past to be the actual masters not the 1 » and 2 «

David Calvert and the idea to Remix RAOTW I presented to Francis when I was invited to stay with him back in 2009/2010. Simply his response was if I would finance it I could do it, he had the tapes somewhere he said but the process to find them took about a year. I agreed to finance it and that’s how it got done initially. Then Simon Porter presented my mixes on a CD to Universal and after more years went by it got released in the package you know.

Really interesting that Rick and Alan have no vocals on the song. Genuinely surprised. Any idea why John?

This is how the bass and drums should have sounded on the whole album. This is great, very interesting explanations etc This is what I wanted to do when I left school.

I always thought PIp Williams took the sound back to the days of John Schroder, this album should of sounded like Proposin, there are some good songs on his album but badly recorded, ive always said Over the edge was the perfect guitar sound for the band.
