Alan Lancaster 7/02/1949 - 26/09/2021 Bassist/Singer/Songwriter/ Producer/Genius of STATUS QUO fame, has died aged 72 of Multiple Sclerosis at his Sydney home, surrounded by his family. Born in London, he moved to Australia in 1976 after marrying his beautiful wife Dayle. Alan wrote and co-wrote many classic Rock songs The 9 1/2 minute Psych/Rock song "Is It Really Me, Gotta Go Home" was written by the Genius of Alan Charles Lancaster. Ma Kelly's Greasy Spoon album 1970 on the Astor / Pye Label. Produced by the late / great John Schroeder. Anyone who met Nuff would know first hand what a beautiful, sweet and charming gentleman he was. I had the pleasure of socialising with Alan at a few gigs in the late 80's, at some of his gigs with The Lancaster Bombers and The Lancaster / Brewster Band and The Party Boys, the latter having 2 Chart Topping Hits. " Hold Your Head Up " by Argent and " He's Gonna Step On You Again " by John Kongos. Alan produced a multi-platinum selling album for Pianist Roger Woodward.

Quo at the very top of the game when this was recorded. I first saw them in 72 and more times since than I can count on all my fingers and toes! They were raw, powerful and having a great time as were we standing and jumping out front. I remember taking a lady friend to see them at Wembley Empire Pool in around 75. She had never been to a Quo concert and was very in to soul music. My then girlfriend could not attend so put her pal forward to join me for the evening. Blew her sock off. She loved it. I wonder if she remembers it now? I do for sure!

1976... Status Quo, the first rock-concert I´ve ever seen, at the age of 14, in my hometown Hannover, Germany. Right and Left a few par-lights, no background, just a wall, no security, no decoration. Beerbottles flew, people fight in front of the stage. I will never forget, holy times of pure rocknroll - it changed my life.

Ja, genau so ist es ! Unvergleichlich ! Einzigartig ! ❤👌👍😊❗ 🎼🎶🎵🎧🎤🎸🎹🥁 P.S. Ich mag die Musik von Queen.

America would be hard pressed to find a band in their rock n roll history that could match the drive n energy like Status Ouo has since the mid 60s. To be honest there is none. I lost them after Matchstick and was happy to find out in 75 that they were still alive n kicking. We tended back then to get music from Europe a year after a lp was released. Not knowing that Ma Kelly's n Dog2Hd came before it,, the first post Matchstick Quo lp my eyes set on was "Piledriver". It was the cover only that spelled P-O-W-E-R . I didn't hesitate bought it, took it home and over the course of 10 beers ,ganja and a 100 watt stereo I reconnected with a long lost friend. It's been always interesting to me that 3 yrs after the "Piledriver" purchase I was in that same record store and a lp named "Let There Be Rock" was staring at me as I walked into the store. Once again a album cover possessed me to buy a lp not knowing what the content was like inside. And once again the process was the same as in 75 when I bought "Piledriver" and the love affair with AC/DC never wavered as it didn't with Quo . Here's my thoughts however with the Aussies. I cannot believe they ever indicated in early interviews that they could of been influenced by Quo's music and style on stage. There's TOO many parallels in AC/DCs music to think otherwise. Has there ever been that type of talk in the UK or elsewhere in Europe regarding the similarities that I am suggesting here ? I would really appreciate ANY replies regarding my inquiry to this subject.

+Adrian Trott Bands like Foghat, ZZ Top, and the Georgia Satellites have however been mentioned in the same sentence as Status Quo, and have the same 'feel' to them at times. I remember the Satellites doing a kind of Quo 'tribute' in a song at Donnington
@tonycardinal93815 жыл бұрын
David Rogers. Your right buddy the similarities are uncanny the difference between the two bands is Ac/Dc play in a more half time feel, at the end of the day it comes from Mr Chuck Berry, even Angus admits this, both awesome bands enjoy.
@andyhinds5423 жыл бұрын
How could you lose a band that went on to far greater success after initial pop success to become one of the greatest rock bands in history? Where did you go between 1969 and 1975? They'd had 6 albums out by the time you had rediscovered them.
@dennism57313 жыл бұрын
Before AC/DC Bon Scott was in a band called Fraternity. They supported Quo on a couple of dates in the early 70's and in Bon's words "blew them away" - from that point on Bon was looking for a rock and roll band who could try and match them - AC/DC was the result. Bon took AC/DC by the scruff of the neck, threw in his other great influence (Alex Harvey of the Sensational Alex Harvey Band) and out came High Voltage. Loved them both, saw them both, but AC/DC never quite got to Quo's level live, on album, yes, but live they just fell short
