I was asked in an interview if I was willing to work remotely. I said yes. I was offered the job later on. During my first week my supervisor asked me which days I planned to come work in the office. I stated that I thought the position was remote since the way it was phrased in the interview. Bullocks.

“Willing to work remotely” isn’t a job offer to work remotely.

If an employee says they can work in person and come back next week saying they need remote days, that's a constructive rejection of the employer's offer. They should be under no obligation to employ the new hire with remote days.

Its cheeky. I reckon if the new hire wants to play dirty with statutory games, the employer can play as well, and on the 13th day or near the end of any probabtionary period, terminate the role citing vague reasons relating to not clicking with the team etc. It is disingenuous to ask for part time work on day 1 - either ve upfront about your needs, or pay your dues.
