Layne Staley is one of my all time favorite singers. He had great range and his voice was powerful! Jerry Cantrell on guitar also did a lot of the singing for this band. He just released a new album which is also very good. Do a deep dive on this band. It is worth it.

My actual favorite group of all time. Still to this day. Of the biggest bands labeled grunge, AIC was the heaviest. This is their most well-known song. One night years go I heard a bar band covering it somewhere down the street. Lead singer Layne Staley is an idol of mine for his serious rock style. Guitarist Jerry Cantrell is a great player in a bluesy vein. Their songs always pack a punch.

Stax man, believe it or not this was released before Nirvana's first hit Smell's Like Teen Spirit, which is credited to be the song that kicked off grunge. Nirvana is awesome, but to me AIC is the real grunge pioneer. Grunge itself is really 80's alternative that finally hit the mainstream, a number of bands like AIC, Smashing Pumpkins, Green Day and the Chili Peppers were already steering it that direction. Before Nirvana blew the lid off it was really a sweet underground scene with some amazing music which you could catch primarily on college radio stations. It was one hella fun time.

So many excellent songs, I don’t think they have a bad one honestly! “Would” is my personal favorite, but Rooster, Nutshell, Rain When I Die, Brother, and literally all of their others are excellent. Yes they are Grunge, one of the big four. Enjoy the ride. If you ever question what the lyrics mean, there was a lot of pain and drug use going on and this was their outlet. Can’t wait for more from you with AiC!

Greatest alternative band, next you should try "Again" almost no one (not that I had seen ) has ever reacted to it or "A Little Bitter", those 2 songs haven't gotten the credit they deserve, at least with rectors since people always request any other song from them and I'm glad, don't get me wrong, is just that every reactor is missing out on those songs and being Alice In Chains you know is excellent material for you channel, please do, thanks a lot man!!

They were initially a funk/ grunge band from Seattle. So many greats came from that region, and that era. The band Heart came from there as well, and Ann Wilson does background vocals on a few of their songs. @@PerseusM76 Those bands were probably the most popular, but I did forget a few. The Smashing Pumpkins, Bush, & Jane's Addiction were also very popular. The Red Hot Chili Peppers weren't necessarily "grunge," but they were right at the beginning of the "Grunge" era adding a bit of California disenchanted flavor to the music scene. I went to college from 1991-1996 (undergrad & graduate school). These were all bands that I listened to in my late teen and early 20s. I hope this helps you to discover older bands of the early 1990s era.
