@@irene7686 I'm not entirely sure who originally created the genre but the earliest Max Martin Y2K formula I know is BSB - We've Got It Going. It's most likely inspired by New Jack Swing (it also has the record scratches and orchestral hits i mentioned) but Max Martin made it "simpler"

Who remembers that incident when Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber were dating two members from B*witched and then the fallout that ensued when the rest of the group couldn't get rehearsals in cuz the couples would go away on these crazy weekend vacations while the rest of the band members were practicing and trying to write songs. The fanbase was so split over whether they should choose love over their jobs etc etc. Crazy times back then
