I love this song so much! I did assignment on it. The motifs in this are so genius, using the "In the Dark of the Night" melody for the chorus "Bridge and river...." to show that the Bolsheviks Russia is the villain of the musical. So good. Your voice fits this so well!

I believe, from watching a bootleg ages ago, that Anastasia, Dimitri and Vlad are leaving Russia for Paris on board a train. A former count sees Anastasia and bows to her, and is then taken away and shot as Russia is now communist. The people boarding the train know once they leave Russia they are essentially exiled and won’t return so they ask for a moment to say goodbye to their motherland.
