@amanda4313 I mean technically Taylor Swift is not the first to say that. Mark Twain said "Familiarity breeds contempt and children" in his time and it goes as far back as A.D times and that saying was "Familiarity breeds contempt, while rarity wins admiration" -Lucius Apulesis. However, we all know he would not have been aware of any of the other times those words have been spoken, and the context in which they were used. The irony is completely lost on him.

He is butthurt that a lot of people referred to Kelcey as "Taylor`s boyfriend" because they didn`t know him as a player. A lot of men had never experienced that they, or some man they find important, is referred to as "the partner of woman X" instead of being appricciated for their own accomplishments. It happens to women on a daily basis and these men find it perfectly normal and acceptable but they got really angry when it was done to one of their own.
@wolfofthewest80197 ай бұрын
No, it's not. That's absurd. Was he insulting Travis Kelce by referring to him as "my teammate" rather than by name? No, of course not, and none of you fools has ever tried to claim as much. When referring to a third party unknown to the person you are speaking to, it is standard practice to refer to that person by their relationship. For example, if I said "Mike taught me everything I know about cars." that would be confusing to you, because you have no idea who Mike is. If I say "My step-dad taught me everything I know about cars," this will make more sense and feel more natural to you. Butker has 10+ teammates, many of whom have girlfriends. If he was going to quote one of them, it would not make sense for him to use their name. You wouldn't know who he was referring to. So instead, he would say "my teammate's girlfriend." What makes this a joke and makes it work is that everyone instantly knows who Butker means when he says "my teammate's girlfriend" because he only has one teammate whose relationship is major news in pop culture. He doesn't actually have any reason to mention Taylor Swift or to quote her, but many people in that crowd (especially the women) probably only know him as "that guy who is Taylor Swift's boyfriend's teammate" and are wondering if he's going to address the elephant in the room. By making a clever aside to her, he both gives the crowd what they want (acknowledgement of the elephant) without engaging in obnoxious name dropping. Getting offended by this joke and trying to spin it into some kind of insult against Taylor Swift is pathetic. Get a grip on reality. You have achieved "Look at that [expletive] eating those crackers" levels of saltiness.

You are absolutely butchering scripture to serve your own malignant ends. Here is some relevant scripture: “When [Jesus] saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest *to send out laborers( into his harvest.” (Matthew 9:36-38) The laborers are we Christians, the harvest is you, the heathen. "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, *and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.* And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (Matthew 28:19-20) A more clear command to evangelize and preach the faith could not be given. "[Jesus] said to them, 'Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.'" (Mark 16:15) Okay, well maybe that's even more clear. "Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness." (Matthew 9:35:) Jesus was sent by God to be a teacher, proclaiming the good news. "Again Jesus said, 'Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.'" (John 20:21) And Jesus sends us to do as his Father sent him, to be teachers. Here's a nonbiblical quote for you too: "The devil can cite Scripture for his purpose./An evil soul producing holy witness/ Is like a villain with a smiling cheek,/A goodly apple rotten at the heart:/O, what a goodly outside falsehood hath!" (Merchant of Venice, Act 1, Scene 3)

For people who want those things when they're ready they're going to be extremely happy but for those who either want only one of those things or neither of those things they're going to end up missirable to be forced into being a spouse or parent against their will or before they're ready as they're having their life choices made for them rather than making them for themselves

So maybe, just maybe, instead of putting career first and waiting until your 30s to start a family, women should start a family, and put off a career until they're in the 30s and done having kids. Oh wow, if women did that, then maybe our population wouldn't be crashing and our entire civilization wouldn't be two generations away from complete collapse. Both my bachelor's and master's commencements had speeches about things like embracing the change that comes with life and using your education to improve the world around you. As a queer person who was raised Catholic, the homophobia he espouses feels antithetical to the messages of love and acceptance I was told, especially considering that many of the stories I heard growing up involved Jesus showing love and acceptance towards people who were marginalized by society. Also if Harrison Butker is going to quote Taylor Swift, the quote he should probably be using is "It's me. Hi. I'm the problem, it's me."

Remember the part in the Bible where Jesus goes up to a bunch of sinners and tells them "I totally approve of you sinning. Keep sinning, enjoy sinning, it's all good." No? That's because that never happened. There is a part where Jesus _forgives_ a sinner and tells others not to judge (i.e. punish), but that part ends with Jesus telling them to "go and sin no more." The marginalized people Jesus ministered to were marginalized unfairly, not because they embraced lives of sin without repentance.

Not everyone understands that kind of motive. Not everyone has intellectual curiosity. Many people are happy to remain in an echo chamber, surrounded by people who agree with them, and cannot comprehend why someone would talk to people they _disagree_ with. Some people find the idea of being exposed to different points of view quite terrifying. You know, _stupid_ people. As a queer (bi/ace) Christian the "pride" joke made me so incredibly angry. The entire speech was terrible, but that moment made my blood boil. They often conveniently "forget " Jesus and his shtick. Ie loving EVERYONE
@wolfofthewest80197 ай бұрын
Jesus didn't love unrepentant sinners. That's what you people always forget. You always remember that Jesus forgives sins, you always forget he then says "Now go and sin no more." You are prideful. That's why you're so angry, you don't like being called out for what you're actually doing. You don't want to repent and be forgiven, you want to be told that you aren't sinful at all. Also, bi/ace? So you have no sexual interest in both sex? What does that even mean? It's such nonsense. You can't be both bisexual (attracted to both sexes) and asexual (not interested in sex). It's absurd. You're just glomming labels onto yourself in a pathetic effort to pretend you're an interesting person, but you're not. You're boring and silly. What's even more absurd is that Jesus, who was asexual, specifically praised the asexual and said it would be easier for those who were "eunuchs by birth" (i.e. asexuals). And you've managed to screw that up by being prideful about it. It's hilarious.
