How to keep your arm loose from the start... for softball pitchers! This video is an extension of our discussion about keeping your arm bent in Power K position. In here, I share a drill that has been SO helpful for my young and beginner pitchers! Let me know if you like it!

In this video, I notice your hand is going up facing down, that’s how I have encouraged in the past. However, I’ve come across other coaches encouraging the hand coming up in a handshake orientation. One thing I’ve experienced coaching is beginning pitchers who bring their arm up with the hand facing down is they tend to have the arm bent to where the ball is coming over the top of their head resulting in the ball coming down behind the power line. There are other factors involved such as getting open to early. So, It’s a quandary what to encourage. BTW I reference your videos a lot, thanks for posting.

Thanks for watching and for the comment! I’ve also see the handshake orientation. I like the palm facing down as I’ve found it easier to land with my palm up in Power K and to keep my arm properly aligned. Sometimes I see pitchers make a halo over their head with the ball if they do the handshake orientation. That being said, as long as they keep it loose with a slightly bent elbow and land in the correct power K position, I don’t care if their palm is facing the ground or in towards their body! Different bodies are comfortable with different things.
