Y’all this is a struggle for anyone who plays a string instrument. Basically what I’ve been told to help with that is practice singing with just down strokes and when you get really comfortable with that gradually add in more strums until you’re comfortable with the entire strumming pattern. This will take a while though so don’t expect anything overnight.

What I do is practice the strumming pattern until I can do it in my sleep and don't have to focus on it all. I end up sitting and playing the same thing for hours, but it works

I think there's an easier way to do the picking thing (which is the way I personally use). I play the fourth string open, the first string open, first string 1st fret, first string 7th fret, first string 5th fret and first string open. I hope it's clear (I'm French so sorry for the eventual mistakes) ^^

I dont think if you play a chord it would sound good, try very slowly to master the riff and even though it might take some time, after you accomplished it stuff like that wont be your weakness
