#1 - We need to show the world that Godot isn't constrained to simple graphics. Just because Unreal Engine looks good by default, doesn't mean we have to forget that games used to look good by talent and skill, not the engine itself. 2025 is going to be huge for Godot
@naturallynemo21 күн бұрын
Funny thing is unreal doesn’t even look to good but default. Only if you really take time with it. It’s overly forward with a lot of the optimizations it has on by default but still has trouble opening a new level without lag. Same with unity. I’m sure these features of value but for smaller teams it really is all about art direction and hook. As someone who has done a lot of game jams you see similar games made with same mechanics and theme and Godot games always seem the most developed it shortest amount of time visually in my experience. So amen basically but it’s worse godot isn’t just not a disadvantage in visuals. It’s minimalism is an advantage
@nanovoidalt21 күн бұрын
@@naturallynemo The video game industry is slowly falling into using Unreal Engine as the default because of it's graphics. While your points were valid, from my professional experience, the most important 2 groups of people in video game industry are: Executives, and the average gamer - they both fall for "good" graphics, even if it means all the games looking the same.
@naturallynemo21 күн бұрын
@ I dont see anything I disagree with. Unreal is bloated but can render specific cases faster. But overall seen a trend of gamers and devs realizing oh art direction is way more important. And by default I think godot games look a lot better. thats probably what I disagree on actually. Unreal games do not look fantastic. Only with a skilled artist and assets. and even then often times unreal gets in own way producing unsightly artifacts on systems optimized only for realistic graphics
@nanovoidalt21 күн бұрын
@@naturallynemo I think I am becoming too jaded by the AAA side of industry and it feels like we're far from the golden days of Art Direction being something we all understand as a requirement, not something only AA and indie titles care about. Slay the Spire 2 and Road to Vostok are the 2 Godot games to watch
@QUIZTIME18420 күн бұрын
Yes true it uses filimic and good sun light setting by default but, godot uses average settings to improve performance by default...

I also switched from Unity to Godot after their poor decision making. Don't regret it at all, despite porting and relearning an engine. I had no idea StS2 devs did the same thing, that's awesome! Great look for Godot to have such a cult classic IP repping it.

I'm liking this new format! Concepts like these are very valuable and something that has been missing in Godot community. I hope you can keep this up for a long time to come :) About 10 days ago another Godot game was released on steam, in early access. Space Survivors. I'm not the creator, it was made by one of the community members of the Game Development Center. Just passing on the message here :)

#1 Vote I don't often vote based on graphics but I do make an exception here. Godot is usually associated with 2D graphics and simple visuals but number 1 game makes a strong impression towards 3D visuals and I hope to see more games pushing it like that.

I used Godot for 4 months and I don’t know a single things about coding.. Right now I’m learning Pico-8 just so I can learn stuff by making my own things, even if they are little! I noticed that my first codes were junk! They took lots of resources and lots of line… I needed to simplify and make better codes in general. Godot is more than fast and capable to create BIG stuff.. in the right hands and the right knowledge.

Hey dude. I just wanted to provide my personal feed back about the new format. I’m not enjoying it as much because it feels slower and I preferred the focus being more on the games. My suggestion is start with the top 5 games and then go into the rest. I understand that I’m only one opinion though and appreciate the effort you put in either way. Have a good one.

Whoever wants to develop a game independently now has no excuse. There is a lot of free open source and really capable engines out there. UPBGE, O3DE, Godot (or its fork, Redot), the Wicked Engine, Fyrox, Bevy, Defold, Stride. Just pick one and stick to it until you deliver. ☝🧐🤷
