Staying Awake in the Cockpit | How do Pilots Fly 10 Hours Through the night?

Today I take you along on a 10 hours night flight from WIndhoek to Frankfurt.
In this Video it's all about how we Pilots stay awake during long flights through the night. One of the most important things is sleep hygiene and napping. A 3 Pilot Cockpit contributes to the safely conducting a flight through long nights.

Damn, i once flown 6 hours in msfs 2020 with B747-8 from london to new york without rest. And that was a nice view over the ocean but at the same time 6 hours without doing much - that was so boring. I just watched youtube most of the time with one eye, and with second one monitored the parameters.

1st comment 1st like It always 3 pilot on the broad everytime its 10hrs fly, did you feel being sleepy everytime when your in the middle or the last one who take a break in some cases what did you do when to keep you awake even you feel sleepy tnx

It depends on the route we are flying if we are three pilots or not. No due to the napping it's totally fine if I have the first or last break. Thanks a lot Maria 🛫✌️

The Airbus planes have a little "calculator" called MCDU. It is the brain of the aircraft. The pilots introduce information in there and also the navigation points (waypoints/airways) they have to follow. It is very similar to a GPS I would say.

Could you describe how it feels to sleep on a plane? Does it feel like you’re floating, maybe moving slightly? Like on a cruise but less prominent maybe? Thanks!

Not a pilot, but as someone that has good "experience" in sleeping in short and long flights, it doesn't make a difference. Sleep feels the same anywhere. The before and after might be different, but while unconscious I've never dreamed about the flight, have nightmares or anything of the like. In some flights I was only able to sleep a few minutes at a time, but it had more to do with sleeping in a seat than anything else.
