Staying positive during a job search is easier said than done. Job search fatigue is a real thing. Getting rejected over and over again can really hurt your confidence. In this video, we'll discuss 8 tips to stay motivated in your job hunt.
_____________________________________________________________________
How to stay positive:
Treat it like a job - put a start and end time
Take weekends off to recharge
Manage expectations - 6 months on average, 300 applications
Shoot to score - It only takes one yes to reach your goal
Thick skin - it’s not personal
Learn from your failures - treat each as a learning opportunity
Spend time with family, learn a hobby, work on new skills - start a side business

Serious job searching is always hard. I once sent out 200+ applications in a month and it almost caused me a burnout since I wasn't totally sure about the exact job I was aiming at. But after extremely slimming down my search and sending out 4 applications to very specific positions, I got 1 response, which landed me a very good job. Keep your chin up guys, and keep your job aim!

Been looking for a job for three months now. I'm still up by 6:00 A.M. every morning; showered, shaved and dressed by 9:00 A.M. before sitting down at my computer. Keeping a routine every day is vital.

I finally landed an offer a month ago and this was what I needed when I was job searching. It took me 1.5 years and approx. 400 applications before finally getting an offer. I was really desperate but I kept a positive attitude during the interviews and I would like to think the interviewers saw that. This was in the entry level actuarial field, which is highly competitive.

Something I tell myself when I get rejected is that even though the job seemed great the work environment was probably toxic. That helps me feel somewhat better

Once went through a horrific interview process for something I truly wanted and could have been very successful. Interview was a flaming $hitshow. No engagement from the interviewer and during the actual interview a " you probably have never heard about x" when it was an industry standard!! Everyone acted dismissive angry and awful. I'm in the middle, chipper as pie, polite, hardworking and talented. There was zip engagement. Interviewer never looked up at me. I'd finish a response and wait and wait and the grudgingly be asked another question. I felt like a comedian on stage bombing. G-dawful. They strung me out for the entire 3 day long waiting period and then I got the "thanks but" email. Here is the thing. Job process started in oct...job started on Jan. 5 interview round. I made it to level 2, whereby my credentials and exp checked out and I was at the next level getting a look at the team. Whew...dodged a serious bullet. I've never seen a ruder or more unprofessional bunch. I can't imaging trying g to work in an atmosphere like that. The 5 interview was a flag as well as the hour long "project" I was going to complete as part of round 3. It was an insanely bad Interview for a horrible company. Sure the job and $$ were great but that group omg...I can't imagine spending 40 hours weekly out of my life with such a horrible group. So although disappointing and harsh at the time, in hindsight..well we see the hand of g-d clearly in the rear view. What is meant for you won't pass you up.

Even when I got rejections, I got some amazing feedback. I lost out on a few jobs to internal applicants, but received feedback that I had interviewed well, that the hiring manager(s) liked me and I had a lot of the skills they were looking for; I was encouraged to apply for the role that had opened up due to the internal promotion on both occasions. I ended up not pursuing further because I had another amazing offer elsewhere that was too good to pass up.

spending too much time on job searching not only leads to burn out, the returns get less and less, you can only apply to so many jobs.

Thanks so much for this video .. I've been on the job hunt for three months and it's become an obsession.. I'm starting to experience burn-out big time and didn't know it existed until I come across your video .. lately I've been doing the 9-5 job search routine .. upskilling myself .. but lately it's become an obsession.. I'll check my emails and various job sites in my down-time and often between 9pm to 12am .. I'll wake up in the morning and do the same thing .. even before I get to the laptop .. and of course, weekends. Funds are becoming tight so I panic and just keep looking at the market.. and the more I look, the more I doubt.. so your video helped!

"Learn from failures" is fine, if you can be lucky enough to get feedback. I've been looking for work for 7 years. Out of all of the resumes and job applications that I have filled out, I've had two interviews, and 3 rejection letters on top of those two rejections. In all cases, NOBODY will tell me what I did wrong, or why I wasn't chosen. In my last job, they didn't outright TELL me my mistakes, but they involve the crime of being over 40 and not in management. The thing about job searching today is that you can go months or years [like me] looking for work and HEARING BACK ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

LOL the bar story: completely true but I would NEVER want to EVER date a man that had a dartboard theory. I've been in interviews when the hiring person didn't even read my resume, showed rudeness, etc. This past Friday was the first time in a long time when the conversation was so natural and there was enthusiasm on both sides. Still waiting on an answer!

What a great video! I have a job and have been looking for another one for almost a year now. The company that I work for is going under sort of speak. Thanks for this video, Im struggling to be positive and this video really helps. I got layoff recently month but lucky enough I manage to get around 20 interviews in 2 months sadly no offer yet, mostly my experience is being ghosted by the hiring manager (s). Job hunt is a mental stress!! Trying hard to stay positive but using these time to start side hustle and talking short course on LinkedIn just to make myself occupy. Plus I am trying to have a career switch. Really praying hard for an offer now, my saving is getting lower I might to be able to pay my bills soon. 🙏

I just got rejected from a potential employer today after an interview - the funniest part was that the hiring manager said he got more of a "quality engineering" vibe from my resume rather than design engineering. I wish I could say that was useful feedback, but I know that that couldn't possibly be the real reason considering I've never done quality engineering and I've worked as a design engineer (pure design) for 4 years. Also doesn't make any sense because he clearly thought it was good enough to bring me in for an interview, so why now would he suddenly change his mind using a reason that makes no sense?

I got rejected though I got good feedback. It hurts like hell, but the thing is that you don't find out about this unless you experience it. There is nothing logical about how companies choose a certain candidate. It's like gambling. Hang in there🌼

What advise for those of us who don't qualify for anything because no place has ever given u a chance. Those of us that spent 8 years unable to get hired and even applied to ever business in your town and the three surrounding, spent all your money trying to keep your place and car. Now you have no home, no car, rough looking cloths cuz you can only afford to wash once a month and everything you own is in a bag. How do we get a job? Most people judge by the way you look above all else and in that I'm fucked everytime.

I’m not sure whether this is coming from capitalism America but most companies coming from silicone valley they either are extremely disorganized with people in positions who lack experience or they’re too pompous like. To me coming from culture of respect and people focused, these American style interviews are frowned upon. I mean why a startup who doesn’t even have good structure is doing typical behavioral interviews where these hiring managers have zero work experience in a said country. I’m going to write about them in job boards as they come across extremely entitled. I mean a 30 year old who have never lived in my country which has totally different work ethics and core beliefs are putting the people in my country on the same scale as American capitalism. It’s no wonder they can’t retain people more than a few years. American corporations even startup in general lack sensitivity training. And why do they ask free project work? This should be illegal to ask for presentation like “come up with strategies here are our company data. Oh btw please sign NDA as these are real company data about our clients”. Pay me first if you want my educated opinion. I am going to report these companies to labor ministry next time as I’m pretty sure this is abuse of power and asking to work for free.

"Treat your job like a full time position" I'm sorry, but I disagree with this. and I actually think it's very out-dated advise. Spending 8 hours a day looking for a job is TOO MUCH. Spending that much time looking for job is only going to lead to a lot of rejections and ghosting from employers. This will burn you out and make your job search even harder. There is also the law of diminishing returns. There are only so many jobs you can apply to. Realistically, spending EIGHT HOURS A DAY looking for a job is not even feasible. Realistically I don't see how you can spend anymore then a couple hours each day on your job search. I do agree it is important to establish a routine and gain some structure though. So getting up showering shaving, getting dressed etc setting a certain amount of time for your job search is a good idea. I just don't think it should be 8 freaking hours.
