Collectif. Plus qu’un groupe, Small Axe est un collectif de chanteurs porté par des musiciens galvanisés à la roots attitude. Ce n’est pas en écoutant Bob en boucle que le nom de Small Axe a fait tilt dans la tête de Jahmayka, le leader. Mais il ne renie pas être un mordu du King of Reggae. D’ailleurs, le groupe a vu le jour avec un album en hommage à Robert Nesta (Bob Marley liveth Forever) en 2009.
Rodrigues Connexion. Au sein de ce combo, il y a une connexion rodriguaise qui a été mise en place. Le but est de défendre les couleurs du dixième district et d’être le porte-voix du peuple. Samuel et Chalice Man sont les chefs de file de cette combinaison.
Ce sont des éléments de divers groupes locaux qui forment la famille de Small Axe. Le noyau dur se compose des musiciens : Jahmike Simisse (batterie), Jahmayka (ingénieur du son), Joas (clavier), Eric Celestin (clavier), Samuel Ismaël (guitare), Koryas (guitare), Didier Baniaux (basse), Ras Eddy (percu), Didier (trombone), Joël (trompette), Aldo et Evan (saxo). Puis, il y a les chanteurs : Krezy Killah (Nasta Gangsta), Rasto (Vyaster), Patrick Lindor, Samuel (Jah Vibe), Jahmyaka, Joas, Ras Tico, Ras Jerry, Chalice Man (Real Mystika), Shev, Yannick, Atelas (FFK) et Joanna Baniaux.
