It would not have been that easy, I`m afraid. Because of the affair between Ryan and Ste - and the fact there don`t seem to be any other evidence linking Ryan to Amy`s death. Not to mention the fact Harry already has confessed to having killed Amy. Tegan`s claims could be thought to be revenge against Ryan for the affair with Ste, and rather than get Harry out of prison, could get Tegan reported, charged and prosecuted for making false accusations. Accusing someone of murder without proof can be very serious indeed.

If only Hollyoaks had made the logical choice of having the character that both stalked Amy, tried to frame Ste for her murder and who for some mysterious reason "knew" a partial footprint found in Amy`s blood to be a match for the make and model of shoes that had been in a box found during a search of Ste`s home, be the murderer, instead of the one who had solid alibi for the only time the only one to so far having been prosecuted for the killing, Ste, would have had the opportunity to kill her, things could have been very different.

And if things had been different, you might not have found Ryan gross. So by adding your little "please," you are unfairly suggesting the original comment to be hopelessly daft. And either deliberately is ignoring the meaning of the original comment as it was written, or you haven`t understood what it meant. Which make your comment either misplaced or misleading. It is not that simple. Ryan really likes Ste - and has for a long time, that has been evident - but because he is terrified he will lose his dead father`s love and respect if he should be seen to be gay, his fear and shame of being called gay surpasses everything else in his life. That is why he hit Kyle when he called him gay, and killed Amy when she shouted it at him - for Ryan being called gay is similar to being stabbed or shot, as far as pain and fear for his life is concerned. For those reasons he reacts irrationally and isn`t always aware of neither what he does, nor the consequences of it. But the problem isn`t first and foremost Ryan - but those parts of society which hold prejudice against others, and doesn`t allow them to live their lives as they want to. Regardless what faith a person hold sacred, or ditto political ideology or whatever, no one has the right to inflict it on others, or expect them to obey the same moral or religious code as they do. Every human being has the freedom to him/herself decide how to live their life. Had more people accepted that as a fact, there would have been much fewer conflicts and much less hostility and suspicion in the world. Much more honesty too, since people would have been more concerned about living their own lives, than focusing on what to think of other people`s lives, or what other people thought of theirs.

Why not direct that disgust towards the reasons that made Ryan end up with Tegan in the first place? Had it not been for all the people looking down on gays, neither Ryan - nor his father - would have had any problems accepting the fact Ryan was gay. Ryan didn`t want to become who he is - he had no choice. Neither the fact that he is gay - nor the fact that makes him feel so scared and ashamed at the same time, he cant cope. And for that reason both goes to bed with any woman offering him a chance, just to convince himself he can have sex with a woman (he just prefers males) and becomes violent and dangerous, should anyone call him gay. Ryan`s image of being gay is what he has learned from homophobic slures and stereotypes. It is a picture he doesn`t recognize himself in - and therefore becomes offended should anyone claim that about him. Even though he is both attracted to and have sex with men, he doesn`t identify himself as being gay, cause in his mind gays are the stereotypes from gay slures and prejudices. He needs to separate himself from that image. Both because it makes him experience shame and fear just hearing it, but also because he doesn`t recognize himself in those prejudicial stereotypes at all. So in his mind he cant be gay, cause he doesn`t match those stereotypes and prejudices. In his mind being attracted to and have sex with men does not mean he is gay. Therefore it is psychologically very important for Ryan to not be defined as gay - cause in his eyes, gay is not a very flattering thing to be called. So when he lashes out against people calling him gay, it is both because he is angry and scared at the same time. A combination that causes him to lose control over his actions and not to realize their wider consequences. Because his fear and shame over being called gay is so massive, preventing that from happening becomes the number one priority for him, so much so he acts on instinct more than by plan, and therefore can be argued not to be fully neither aware nor responsible for his actions.
