Finally at 9 minutes in you get to the flywheel weight. So far your evaluation of the Bike is much more critical than most. I appreciate your thoroughness and attention to details.

Thank you for helping us sort out the CRF450RL. Given Honda’s reliability and pedigree in racing I knew there had to be an amazing bike hiding under all the compliance garbage. Thanks again for helping us find that bike. Please do a video that goes into detail on how changes you’ve made affect the handling. It’s still a mystery to me how torque specs on motor mounts can affect handling.

Tires make a HUGE difference, one of THE most important parts of the bike.I just tried the Goldentyre 216 fatty front on my bike and its night and day, it feels like a whole different bike. This tire has really earned its reputation. Still have to change the rear tire, haven't tested that yet.

Your thoughts echo my own. It has taken some work and money to get the bike right, but man do I love the 450L! I'm going to look into the chassis mounts. I've always thought about them for the bike, but after springing and revalveing the suspension I just haven't pulled the trigger. Look forward to your future videos on your '21 450RL.

Hey thanks this video REALLY helped me get my yz250f set up for enduro. To my surprise, the torque reduction on the chassis bolts was a MAJOR improvement. Just have to be careful to not go to low or the frame will crack.

can you give me the specs of what you did?? I have a yz250f 19' for enduro Thnks!

@@elsemi11 hi, I just went through the torque specs for all the frame bolts, motor mount bolts, axel bolts, triple clamp bolts, shock, linkage etc. Every bolt that contributes to the frame/chassis rigidity (dont loosen engine bolts or anything else that would be dangerous for the engine). I took the torque specs that were in the shop manual for my bike (you will need these torque specs) and I reduced the torques by like 15% (just multiply each torque number by 0.85). I made sure they were all written down for reference.

Thanks for the video. I believe the new torque values are within the tolerances of the average person's torque wrench.

I’ve got a 17’ 450RX and contemplating swapping it in for an FE501 as I find it a bit unmanageable on slow speed and technical stuff, power delivery is just brutal, which I absolutely love on the straights and road with supermoto wheels on, but really not suited to chugging up hill climbs etc. I’ve spent quite a bit getting all the bolt on bits I wanted, but don’t want to keep spending just for it remain a compromised bike. Will a tune and flywheel weight really make it the equivalent of an FE501 or 500 EXC? Also curious about the titanium engine mounts, where they already softer than factory? Seen people drilling holes in their factory mounts to achieve similar results, though not something I’ve tried yet. Many thanks for the review and look forward to see what you do to yours, was hoping you’d start developing Honda’s!

I was thinking about lending you mine when you gave this one back. 19' w/800 miles on it. Now I can't wait to see what you come up with on the 21. I mostly only did a Vortex and a bigger tank so far...

Mike, you explained about changing the torque on the pinch bolts and others but did not explain why this makes a difference. As a new rider and wrench turner, it does not register with me how loosening up, for example, an engine plate a few ft/lbs makes a difference in the ride or motor response. Can you explain how the physics of this works?

Can’t help myself to comment again. Why do you find it necessary to compare Honda’s 450l to a KTM 500 and then piss and moan how the KTM power is more linear. Every odd duck criticizing the L compare it to the KTM 500 not the 450 KTM, why? The Honda powerband is linear across the rpm range, it pulls from the bottom all the way up until almost eight grand before dropping off. Who in the hell needs to stress their engine to eight grand? Most riders never pass six plus because there’s no need to do so, ever. That just puts unnecessary stress on your engine and leads to needing to rebuild sooner. The maintenance schedule suggested by Honda was criticized for calling for service and replacement parts after too short a time frame. Those suggestions were for those treating their bike as a race bike not your average dualsport. There are L’s out there with 20,000 miles on them John T has thirty on his and is still up and running. You won’t get that out of a KTM.

There’s documented ktm excf’s out there with 20-50-88k miles on them. No biggie.

We ride in the desert and routinely hit 10k rpm on 450’s. I guess if you’re putting to the gas station for a 6 pack you don’t need to pass 6k but I think most people who ride off road out west truly get in the 8-10k range consistently.
