If your looking to save some money of beef for steaks then try some cuts other then sirloin and ribeye. Flank, Tri tip and skirt are all great options but go chat to your local butcher to see what’s available and what’s good! 🥩❤️

The best tip he gave is not about the type of meat.. It's: GO TO YOUR LOCAL BUTCHER.

if you have the money for it, sure
@1physics5 ай бұрын
@@florianhug8069 anyone that eats steak can eat steak a bit less often and go to their local butcher. Noone needs to eat meat all the time and it means you'll properly appreciate it. After all, people who regularly just go to the supermarket seriously think the rubbish at Costco is good steak because yeh it's better than Tesco
@KattoTang5 ай бұрын
@@1physics Yeah, like, I don't even understand that person's comment. Steak is expensive regardless of where you go, especially for the prime cuts. Andy is suggesting going to a butcher and asking what's a good value right then...so why would that be more expensive? A better comment would be "If you have a local butcher, sure", since that's not something everyone has access to, sadly.

One big issue, at least in my area, is that there's not many "real" butchers left, most of them order in everything pre-butchered and don't have any of the less standard cuts available

My local butcher: "Value? Give me all your money."
@aluminatestrontium72985 ай бұрын
In an old cookbook (late 70s or early 80s) I read this: "Time is money, this is especially true for meat cuts. You can make any cut taste delicious, but tougher ones require more preparation and cooking time. People nowadays [again, late 70s/early 80s] have less and less time to cook, so they tend to buy fast cooking cuts. This increase in demand is not balanced by an increase in offer, as butchered animals will yield always the same proportion of cuts. It is reasonable to assume more expensive cuts will be easier and quicker to prepare, but if you have time, you can still prepare a delicious meal while saving money."
@nickyoung43035 ай бұрын
Totally agree...tri tip, picanha, bavette, flank...all way better than prime cuts if cooked properly...more flavour

if your butcher doesn’t know what you’re talking about, you can try and say “California roast“ and that may be something they’ve heard of. (different name for the same cut) If you’re out east or in the Midwest, they may not know what you mean.

Not that it's an under-rated cut, but I've always been a big fan of getting a whole top sirloin. I cut steaks, kebabs and stew beef out of the entire thing. A good balance between value and quality. If I'm not mistaken, the tri-tip you cooked forms part of that whole top sirloin. Delicious for steaks.

Flank steak so underrated. When it goes on sale at our local market it’s USD $6.99/lb. It’s barely more than ground beef which I don’t regard highly at all. I use flank in chili, tacos (the best), teriyaki beef bowls, etc. It’s great

In my part of Texas, Sirloin IS a cheap cut of steak. I love sirloin, but everyone around here like the TBone or Porter House or the Rib Eye; skirt steak is used in Tex Mex Fajitas, the most expensive menu item in a Tex Mex restaurant.... so my lowly sirloin is cheaper.
