I'm Asian and my job takes me all over Kansas, Texas, Missouri, and the South. Asian stare happens occasionally but definitely not as much as 15-20 years ago. Most people are generally polite and gracious, especially in the Midwest. There was one time a few years ago, though, when I was on the way to Atlanta from Macon and stopped off in Lithonia for some Gladys Knights Chicken & Waffles. The lady at the table next to me gave me the stare but then asked me if I was Chinese or Japanese (I'm Chinese). I looked her right in the eyes and, with a straight face, I started speaking to her in Italian.

Mike, I grew up about 60-70 miles southeast of Kirksville and seeing the clips of you driving on those country roads made me feel nostalgic for my childhood. In high school, we would go to the university there (back then it was just called Northeast Missouri State) for various competitions and would always have to stop into to Paglia's Pizza. I'm glad I discovered your channels (props to Sean Evans) and happy to find another KZbin'r who brings a positive outlook on the world. Thanks!

Yes, in the west lots of folks want steak and eggs and/ or biscuits and gravy for breakfast. Actually, in parts of the states, biscuits and gravy are necessary sustenance at any time during the day. And this is a tradition older than the USA itself. Folks have been eating some sort of hard tack, twice baked "cookie" with meat drippings since the pilgrims tottered up the shoreline. It's only in the last couple of hundred years that a fluffy soft bread dumpling has been used, along with a white rue sauce. Check out the youtube site Jas. Townsend and sons to get the facts.

That second breakfast looked AMAZING, and that giant root beer float! If i had that first breakfast with the steak though I think I'd fall right back asleep after. My favorite non typical breakfast I've ever had was the big lunch plate of loco moco from the rainbow drive in. I'd get it whenever i was on my way to the north shore for Romi's garlic shrimp: two scoops rice, two hamburger patties, gravy, two eggs, and mac salad on the side. And I've had a similar stare go down when i stopped in a random Wendy's in Maine while on a small road trip. The whole place stopped and stared, but continued to look for the entire time i was there. I'm not asian or black, i just obviously look non white.

KudaroKoi order canned biscuits online. bake them or fry them on super low heat. i like to stuff mine with tuna mixed with bbq sauce and a little cheese then fried. they look like empanadas but taste soooo southern.
@swish007
@swish007 7 жыл бұрын
southern biscuits are hard to describe.. there ARE very dense biscuits.. but they are pretty soft and buttery and perfect for spreading lots of butter or jam or honey on them. they're almost like hardtack but if you made it soft and sumptuous. the kind i like here in NC are so dense they're kinda hard to chew by themselves. but here you wouldn't have a traditional southern meal without a basket of them on the table. you can tell i'm kinda passionate about biscuits lol. (they're really mainly just flour, salt and maybe buttermilk.. and then you cut up a lot of butter and mix it in while leaving chunks of butter in the dough. so it gives it a flakiness but nothing like say a croissant. with biscuits you don't knead the dough much at. and just enough wet ingredients to barely come together)
@KudaroKoi
@KudaroKoi 7 жыл бұрын
Gosh I really want to try some biscuits here in London if I can find a place that serves them. That's so cool though, in England biscuits are referred to as cookies. Would love to try southern american food.

All minority's in areas that lack cultural diversity get that stare. I personally don't care until I feel a negative atmosphere/vibe. Most of the time I take it as 'people staring at the new person in the room', but it gets uncomfortable when the staring doesn't stop. 👀👁👀👁👀👀👁👀👁👀👁

When you go to a small town anywhere in the world, people stare at you. The stare is part of curiosity for people who see/do the same things. I went to a tiny village in India, and even though I’m Indian myself, people stared because they’d never seen a car before!

Same stare Asians get in Compton or Oakland. But that gets followed with the Asian beatdown and Asian robbed.
