I love this guy...and his ideas too are simply genius. Hiring Managers today rarely ever hire the most talented for the job anyway, as they come up with many dump criteria. In my current job, i look at my manager who goes to interview candidates, he has zero idea of what we really do in the Team..but he is still out there looking for political numbers as this video accurately portrays! This video is gold, the presenter is genius level witty and clever....you need to be smart yourself to follow his train of thoughts.

I worked for a company that the manager always offered people jobs at the interview as he admitted to other managers that he 'hated interviews'. I got my job after a brief 10 minute chat. The real important thing is to get your resume in front of the hiring manager

Hey David. I met you at Dreamforce a few years back. You were bummed because you failed a cert exam that day. You had a great attitude and said you’re just going to try again and you’ll crush it next time. At that point I had one cert. now I have 7 and going for architect. I’ve had a few exam fails along the way but never forgot your positive attitude that day. Thanks man!

Being in the IT industry for 10 years taught me that "The ones who really solve things are afraid to promote themselves, while the ones who are not for real, promote themselves like hell... " If it's based on numbers and results, there is no problem with it.. just be careful to not look like a DB!

This is great! I am having a lot of trouble with my resume. I’m relatively new in the SF ecosystem and come from a background as nurse practitioner. All of my achievements, awards, etc. have to do with medical! Do you have any tips for building a stand out resume when you’re changing careers and relatively new? I’m not feeling great about my resume at all, and I do not think a computer would recognize it for a Salesforce job at this point. So far, I’m a little over 3 months in, have Admin cert, 97 badges, just landed volunteer admin role with Red Cross, and have created one personal use app. I’m currently still working as a nurse practitioner but am seeking an admin role as an entry point.

Man. its amazing how most of the stuff you learn in high school becomes moot. For example, I took an elective in high school called 'Job Search' for half a semester, and one thing they taught us was the proper order of sections to list in your resume. 1. Education 2. Experience 3. Awards and Achievements 4. References I lost points on my sample resume because I did not put these in the correct order; for an end of the semester assignment. Notice how "Licenses and Certifications" was not mentioned to me at all in high school. To offer better context here, I graduated high school in 2008, so i would've taken this course in 2007/2008. Just goes to show you, you constantly have to "re-learn" what you thought you already knew...good video. I'll be basing my resume off of yours. The biggest takeaway for me, was the order of your sections. Thanks.

I paid almost 2k to a salesforce developer& admin course honestly the mentorship they provide is not even half of what you give to people here..I had my admins certification few days ago, I had to almost bag mentors to help me with linkedn profile and resume they kept saying it will be at the end of the course so I ended up wondering around in youtube for hours. Not even sure if I had a good profile or not but at least I am trying on it. Hopefully this resume tips would work on me to get some freelance projects at least.

Super helpful advice from your personal experience, David. Numbers, keywords, and placement are everything when you only have about 6 seconds to impress. I think it's important for many of those watching this video to understand that a resume gets you the call, the email, the invitation to interview. Still, it's you, your ability to interview, knowledge, and references that confirm the offer of employment. Viewers should be extremely careful about embellishments on resumes. Countless candidates have been turned away and blacklisted for resume falsehoods, and that's just in my practice and divisions I've operated. Keep the great content coming!
