When my husband's great grandmother was on her deathbed, family was literally fighting and throwing hands over who was going to get what while she was just in the other room. I was so disturbed by it. My husband and I, along with our kids, were the only ones she recognized when we went to see her one last time and we wanted nothing of hers. She was such a kind and loving person and we cherished her for it.

I totally agree. The daughter didn’t bother to put a bra on her mother or her false teeth in or even brush her hair or put her in a nice outfit for court. The mother has a lot less going on in her brain other than bipolar disorder. The not being able to have self control of her mouth. Then the incoherent yammering out in the hallway with the interview guy. And Mrs Purple eye shadow and her husband behaved the same way. Talking over the Judge. Refusing to listen to simple instructions or answering simple questions. The Plaintiff and her husband were quit and respectful and listened to what the Judge asked of them.

They divided it and I didn’t get a penny, two of my brothers didn’t go her wake or funeral. They still came together to take my portion. I helped take of my mom, planned her funeral and even had to Clean and clear her things by myself. My father NEVER told them they were wrong. I came from a family of 11 children. When my mom died, having been the one that was always called on to do things, I took control as usual. The funeral expenses was told and us siblings that had the finances divided it up and paid the share. There were siblings who had no funds to contribute, so they were not included for any funds with no problems. No one questioned what had to be paid, we just paid. The funeral home who handled everything said they had never worked with a family like ours before where there was no fighting or confusion. They wished that every funeral they handled could be so amiable.
@crimeshowaddict2013

That is exactly how the funeral for our mother was handled by my siblings and I. We all put in what we could, some of us more than others, and that was ok because it was nothing but the best for our mom. We love her so very much and miss her more and more everyday. The only thing we argued about (jokingly) was which one of us was mom’s favorite ❤️

Come on! It's obvious. I have personally seen this happen. My stepmother did the same thing to her sister. It is very, very clear that the mother is not right in the head. And if you want to see who pushed it, all you have to look at is who took her to the lawyer and who got the money. And it was a very similar situation with my stepmother too. My stepmother pushed on her father that her sister was not his biological daughter, and therefore shouldn't get any money from him, even though she was always raised with him as her father, and got him to change his finances so that all the money went to my stepmother before he even died. She also God my dad's will avoided so she got all that as well! But she doesn't know how to manage her own money, so she's broke again anyways.

I can't even get through this episode. I urge parents with multiple children to set up a Will, whether or not there's a lot of money or assets. A piece of junk car could cause this big of a dysfunction when siblings are left to make decisions on their own. I've seen something as insignificant as a 20year old vehicle tear families apart. It obviously stems from deeper issues but it's the excuse they use to ruin the family and relationships.

The mother is to blame in all of this. Both daughters clearly stated that the mother is only “physically” in need of care, and that she is completely coherent mentally. Therefore she is fully capable of knowing what she’s doing. The money was all left to the mother, and the father (the deceased) listed out his wishes on how the money is to be divided. Out of $77K - •$40K goes to the nursing home for the mothers care. •The remaining balance gets equally divided between the children. The MOTHER is the one that dismissed her own late husbands wishes and changed how the money will be disbursed. SHE decided to leave it all up to the defendant (daughter). If she is all there mentally, then she shouldn’t have been able to be persuaded into doing that, unless that’s what she truly wanted. If the plaintiff (daughter) and her brother (who wasn’t there) were the ones taking care of her initially, then why did they stop taking care of her? If they hadn’t stopped caring for her, then it wouldn’t have left the door open for the other daughter to swoop in. Maybe there’s something else going on here. Maybe the mother had her reasons for not including the other children. Maybe something happened in the midst of everything! Who knows?! It would have been nice to hear from the mother to truly get to the bottom of what happened.

Yeah, but according to the mother at the end she they all "adore eachother", if it was more than that I believe she would have commented differently at the end. Another thing is I believe that the defendant and her brother stopped caring for the mother because of a few things 1.) they have their own lives + possible children 2.) she's bipolar (they claimed in court) 3.) it may have became too much physically for them to take care of her (I.e washing her up, cleaning her, etc). Those are pretty standard reasons and nothing to fall out over, unless the mother was being petty. I think your first thought was right, that the mother just changed it for her own reasons.

As a pastor, I have seen this happen way too often when someone dies and has money. It is incredibly awkward and sad to see families squabble over money. Even more awkward is when the parents leave all the money to the church bc their kids didn't really care for them. They leave it all to the one place that cared for them near the end of their life. Someone once gave the church around 200k and left nothing to the family. They then act like the church or the pastor coerced them. Nah, they knew we would use the money in way that honors them and the way they wanted to use it, to help people in need. That is a lot of money. For this reason, it's important for parents to prepare wills before hand.

Most of us don't have half that kind of dedication to our neighbors and I am including me in that. Many people I work with will die for the people they serve. You don't get to say what u said about something that inspires them to love people so selflessly. People like MLK Jr. or William Wilberforce whose faith inspired to do great things. My mother had recently died, he had to go into assisted living and he had dementia. The original will was to be divided equally between the four siblings but the new will gave almost everything to them; my other brother and I got very little. Because I was living in another state and several lawyer colleges advised that it would be very expensive to litigate, ( I had just retired and was living on very little income), I did not pursue it. Ironically, I used to be an Adult Protection caseworker and saw this all the time with families. I never thought it would happen to me. Siblings turn on each other but usually one, normally the oldest has all the responsibility of Taking care of the aging parent, but when the parent dies the other children often expect to get everything. A Trust Fund or Will and attorney should be in place. The mother should have divided the money to her children after all expenses were paid. If the father died from neglect or abuse in the nursing home and there was a settlement, the attorney didn't do his own job. I dare say he tried to get more money All attorneys aren't honest. And parents can be influenced especially if they are older and having aging issues. The mother didn't look taken care of.
