While it’s true SMG has no obligation to fix stuff, I think it’s a much better move to listen to the community because firstly, it’s a relatively small community and secondly it would create loyalty and goodwill to create a base fuel growth imo.

If i may add to the question of community made risk client...the gsme is growing the last thing competitive risk needs (cause thats petes clear focus imo) is to divide the player base with a fan made client.

Ideally the devs would care enough about the competitive scene to listen to us an incorporate the community's needs. I don't actually think the game is growing without the community and content creators so if a fan made client were to come into being the player base wouldn't split, it would switch imo. Assuming that client is better.

there's a version of risk on the playstation store with a game mode where you can spend "stars" (each card has 1-3 stars and all trade ins are based on star totals not card totals) to build bases that act like capitols and artillery that can attack once per turn on any territory within range and a bunch of other stuff and it's super fun. wish SMG would adopt that.

Pete, do you think a non random game mode would be fun to play or would it just be boring. For example, when attacking a territory, you always lose 66%( or whatever the average loss currently is) of the troops you kill even on a failed roll, with caps rolls losing like 150%.

One of the issues may be that smg put in work on the animations and they look fantastic. But they get in the way of the game. Its hard to admit that something that looks great is not wanted by players.

Oh yeah it's one of the more egregious examples of sunk cost fallacy I've ever witnessed. It's actively killing their player base and the growth of their game but conversation about that seems completely off the table

yesterday in a game i found myself in the same starting situation as blue. other player capped right next to me in Africa. I took that as a threat and manually rolled that capital on turn 1. I ended up finishing the game 2nd place. it was classic fixed too, if it were prog i'd have not given it much of a care to be honest, but if you don't get a bonus in classic fixed you are doomed

I have played some other risk clients, mostly on websites, and I don’t think they are as good as the official one. The official one actively works to make the game feel like a mobile game and has UI things that inhibit finding the competitive scene, in my opinion. I played it on steam in the past but didn’t know about the competitive community until watching this channel.

The slider could have some updates but not always automatically best position. 1st it should never happen that when using slider you go negative. As the best position it is also a bit strategy - go fast or go smart and I think it would be incorrect to complain on that. But if animations are on then you go slow anyways and it should be automatically in best spot as it is kind of fancy noob mode.

The best spot is 100% to take. Anything else is suboptimal and can be manually adjusted for different specific needs.

6 Minutes in, Empty Cap and 2 players not seizing it (yes i realize one is a neutral bot, but still) Just Walk off cap and leave. Why? I've expected red to quit multiple times, he's just having such a bad game. Takes Asia. Also I looked back, white could have capped in that arabia/middle east spot. I don't know how many troops were there either, didn't look hard enough or how high they were in the turn order.

While the idea of fixing the slider might make sense from a competitive standpoint, it's not a good decision for developers and casual players in general. Let me explain why. Currently, the slider is kind of a mini-game in the game. Removing/repairing it would remove a significant part of the game's mechanics. It would also immediately narrow the gap between a beginner and a master if the slider didn't exist. Imagine playing without the silly emotions that come with slider errors. Another point is the history of unsuccessful games designed for competitive play. Casual gamers usually avoid these. Risk is popular, therefore it might be a loss loss scenario, why take the RISK?

If the game had more competitive integrity that would be appealing to casual people as well because everyone likes to win and every hates to lose when the loss is unfair. You would never choose to commit more troops to a roll than you need to win it so we're not suggesting tweaking a mechanic thats working properly. We're suggesting fixing one that's broken
