This was strangely entertaining, have thought about doing stealth car camping myself but it kind of gives me the creeps a little and have envisaged something like you’ve experienced here happening.
@ManontheOutside3 жыл бұрын
Give it a go! To be honest I found it very difficult to sleep at first and I kept waking up every time I heard a noise, but I'm gradually getting more and more used to it. A good tip someone recently told me is to take earplugs and an eye mask then you'll not be as likely to be disturbed. There are definitely a lot of people doing odd things during the night (I suppose they probably look at me the same, lol) but I've never had any real problems...most of the things you imagine happening never actually happen. I think sleeping in a car or a van just takes a little getting used to! I've got some interesting spots planned (and some tent and bivvy camps coming up too) so I'll see how I fare!

You can buy a water emergency heater it plugs into your cigarette lighter / power port it takes a little while to heat up two cups of water but it does do it. I like to open Google maps and look around the area to find little hiding spots to park. I'm always looking because over the years spots I have used in the past have changed either because the lots were cleaned off and new houses built or there are just more people in the area and in some cases like you showed in one of your videos they've made it more difficult to get into the park with larger vehicles where they have totally shut the area down at night. I'm not sure why you're so hesitant about someone possibly seeing you climbing into the front if you are leaving.
@ManontheOutside3 жыл бұрын
Cool, I will check those out, thanks! Water heater sounds a great idea. I think I was a bit hesitant jumping in the front in case I was 'accosted' by a dogger or something like that. I found out later on that even switching on your interior light is some kind of signal to them, there's a whole set of signals they use 😄 To be fair it was my first time out sleeping in it so didn't expect to have to deal with anything like this. I guess you soon get used to it! I'm actually planning to go back to that spot to sleep over, that should toughen me up a bit, if you can deal with that nothing should phase you 😄

They probably thought you were new meat, they were checking to see if your van was rockin. Figured you were next level with a van to get down in comfortably. In the states van campers mostly avoid rest stops because they are one stop shopping for outlaws. So we get comfy at Wal Mart and enjoy the street sweeper that passes once every 10 min as it does big loops around the parking lot.
