Honestly, Steamdeck is what kids who gamed in the 90s (Gameboy, DS) and early 2000s ( PS2, XBOX) era dreamed of... A portable device that also sported high end 3D graphics , and much more relevant for heavy, current era games than ports of old games . It's a Charizard version of Charmanders PSP and PSVita.

I really love hearing your stories about gaming and your love for gaming and your appreciation for all the different systems. Very very good commentary. When I saw you growing up playing those games I wondered it was a disservice to you, that it would be something that would not be productive. But I see now that is led to a career, a passion to hobbies and other IT passions and to finding a way to enjoy and decompress which is definitely a productive thing.

For anyone interested, using Satisfy grips with the Switch has helped a lot. I cannot game on the switch without it. I have both the Steam Deck and the Switch and using the added grip to the Switch makes them comparable in comfort. I do love using my PS4/5 controllers with the Steam Deck docked though, it is great!

Was in a very similar situation to you. I got a nintendo switch about 2 and a half years ago + The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It reignited my love of gaming but after awhile gaming on it started feeling...stale. I wanted more than just nintendo exclusives, rpgs and watered down ported games. I felt like gaming-wise I was 2-3 years behind everyone else. But I knew that purchasing a PS5 or Xbox would be worthless to me. I've always loved handheld gaming (first system was a gameboy advance, then a DS, PSP and so on) and other than having a PS3 from my teenage years I never cared for console gaming. What I liked about console gaming were the AAA games, not the form factor itself. The Steam Deck is a miracle-device in my eyes. I never thought there would come a day I could easily play AAA games without being tied down to a desk and chair. I still can't believe i'm playing Elden Ring, MW2, Destiny 2, Hogswarts Legacy, and Cyberpunk 2077 all from this not-so-little-handheld PC.
@JonE5FPV

YES! Exactly, i really had all but given up. As many times as i tried to get a PS5, it felt weird every time i went into a best buy, and was somewhat relieved when they never had stock. Because i REALLY wanted to game, but was fairly certain i would play it for 5 hours and never touch it again. Steam deck exceeded all my expectations so far.

I absolutely love your take here. For me, the Steam Deck made me a handheld gamer again... or perhaps for the first time? I think? Haha! I have a Switch but I simply don't enjoy playing it in hand held form. Even with the Skull and Co grip, I just find the Steam Deck a great deal more comfortable. I also have a 3DS and 3DS XL but I could never really invest a lot of time into either of those. But the Steam Deck, I can pour hours into it be it handheld or docked. I also like being able to play games that I would typically play on the Playstation and Xbox on the go. And with these games being so cheap, double dipping is never an issue.

The main reason I don't play Velocidrone on my laptop is because it's only just able to handle the sim at 40 FPS.....!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 @JonE5 FPV Drones , does this mean I can get this "steamdeck" , and a quality monitor, then plug my Tx into the deck and play Velocidrone at FULL 60 FPS +.........?? That is what i have been doing. Velocidrone doesnt need much heavy lifting, just a good monitor, i was getting 100fps. Which still isnt as high as an ultimate setup on a 3090 with a 265hz monitor, but for me, its for sure good enough for me to train. My current setup is an alienware laptop with 144hz monitor, so technically i get that extra 44hz when playing that way, but the difference is not as notciable as it is going from 60hz or 40hz up to 100hz
