Loving my Legion Go!!! Planned on getting it and returning it and trying the Ally before making a final decision, with steam deck as a backup plan. But this gigantic beautiful screen, and removable controllers are a no brainer. The buttons and sticks feel so great! And it’s not heavy at all for me. The controllers are SO ergonomic unlike the Ally and Switch. Speakers are no problem. I didn’t even download audio software like people suggested. They sound fine. Fan noise is not even noticeable to me unless I have it plugged in to the TV and set the TDP to 30. And it has TWOOO USB C ports? This means I don’t NEED a dock to play on the TV. Just USB C to HDMI on the top, charger on the bottom and I play for hours. And did I mention THE KICKSTAND??? It’s amazing. Better than the switch. Not only is it great for standing the Legion Go upright, but it allows you to stand it up ON ITS SIDE. Perfect for laying in bed and resting on your side with controllers to your side relaxing. Can’t do that on other handhelds. I don’t even need to prop the Legion Go up on a pillow to play it on its side. The kickstand does it all. It’s so substantial. This also means when I plug it in to the TV I can just use the stand to have it on its side so there’s no issue with the cords. Battery life hasn’t been an issue either. With 2 charging ports, I can just plug in if needed. In whichever direction is convenient at the time. But even then, I haven’t had an issue considering game in short bursts. Being windows, I get any game I want. Gamepass got me Starfield, Deathloop, Coral Island, FarCry 6 and more. Other games I downloaded from their site. And then I downloaded Steam for my first time ever. Then BOOM Steam sale. So now I have a handful of other games. Next comes emulation. Any game I want, I have access to! This thing is great. There’s no way I could use one of these others where the controllers don’t even come off.

I have had LCD Deck and for the last 3 months the OLED. Yesterday i bought a ROG Ally, after 5 hours setting up, installing all updates, installed some Gamepass games, did a firmware update and it broke windows. Microsoft would no longer licence my games. Had to reset the OS. Try two spent all day installing stuff. Tried to play Forza again, driver issue with display, tried fallout NV, crashed, tried asphalt 9, game pad does not work. Managed to get Streets of Rage 4 running and after 15 mins thr battery had dropped over 10%. Overall one of the worst experiences with tech i have ever had. Steam Dexk LCD was pretty OK at launch. Thr OLED is another level, and Steam OS just works and is super intuitive. ROG Ally is let down by Windows. Avoid avoid avoid.

I travel quite a bit and own both ROG Ally and Legion Go (Legion go was not announced when I got the Ally). Since buying the Legion Go, I haven’t touched the Ally. I absolutely the versatility of the legion. When on a plane, being able to pull of the controllers and set up your screen on the back of the headrest is awesome and so much more comfortable than trying to hold either handheld in hand/on your lap. Highly recommend buying a controller joiner off eBay or Etsy. Legion screen is big enough that it’s still very usable at that distance too. Same goes for when docking on tv/other monitor. When I go home, i travel with a dock and works great when setting up on tv. 2nd usb c port is so invaluable. Overall i just love the flexibility of the Legion Go.

I went with a legion go. use case for this hand held for me is not just for gaming so versatility is the key. in my opinion the legion go screen size is the minimal you need to have in able to work stuff effectively in a windows OS...or am just getting old and can see my work better on a larger screen lol. Its large enough to be used as a tablet pc with the added bonus that it can also game. the kickstand is just genius, I've used this thing on its kickstand more than holding it on my hand. there are 2 USBc ports too which is super useful. clicking things and touch typing on the on screen keyboard is also easier on a larger screen.....sausage fingers I know but it is what it is lol. played with a test unit of an dog ally in my local best buy and I instantly knew I'll be cursing on that thing working windows on that tiny ass screen.

Legion Go for me. I got one about a week after release. It's been a rough first few months, but Lenovo is finally pulling it together on the software end especially with the most recent Legion Space and controller updates. The screen is gorgeous and great for all use cases. It's big enough that bars above and below 16:9 games aren't as big of a deal as they are on the Steam Deck. It's even better when running emulators with retro games. The 16:10 screen is perfect because it gives more vertical space for games that run in 4:3. It also a better PC replacement. The screen is big enough to use with a keyboard and mouse to do everyday computing tasks without the need to connect to an external monitor.

Underrated SD feature: instant sleep suspension and wake. Makes it truly feel like a pick up and go device that can be played at any time. Windows simply isn’t built for that I also have windows installed on a microsd for anti-cheat games (I’m amazed I can play modern warfare 3 on this). This thing does everything. The only thing it’s missing out on more performance but it still has been able to play everything great and if I want to have the highest end experience I’ll just play on my desktop. I’ve had a Rog Ally z1 extreme for over a year. My third one actually. First two didn’t last long and thankfully I still had warranty. I just got a OLED steam deck and now my Ally is for sale. One thing many of us forget is that the paper specs don’t tell us what it’s like to live with. The deck is an overall more polished and refined machine. In my opinion it’s much better to just grab and go like a handheld. The Ally is closer to a laptop with a controller attached. Very buggy and can be annoying when the system doesn’t cooperate. I just got tired of dealing with the issues instead of playing the game while I had the time. Good power but definitely rough around the edges. I hope their next system will fix the issues many of us have because that system has allot of potential as a handheld gaming device.

The one that was right for me was the one staring me in the face on super sail at Best buy Picked up the ROG ally yesterday I haven't done any kind of PC gaming since 2004 when Doom 3 just about fried my graphics card and I ended up playing the OG Xbox port of it instead lol But I have always been obsessed with portable gaming. You could never get me off of my Game boy and I was always kind of fascinated by impressive ports to those consoles. Back when you would see original NES games on the Game boy color, and then when you would see pseudo 3D games on the Game boy advance or SNES ports. Man I loved the Game boy advance so much. I regret ever selling that with all the games I had. For a while I just ended up playing home consoles for a bit until I finally picked up a switch in 2018 And that thing just blew my mind. Never mind Nintendo exclusives, which I'm not necessarily The biggest fan of. I like Mario games and I enjoyed tears of the Kingdom. But I'm not necessarily huge into a lot of their IPs What I liked again was seeing all of these other games ported to a handheld system. When I picked it up I got Mortal Kombat 11, Doom 2016, and Dark Souls. And it was crazy to me to be playing those games portably. Even though stuff like MK11 and Doom had to be either downgraded with resolution / texture or frame rate in order for it to run, the fact that it wasn't just some totally different version of the game and was a legit port of the same exact game playing handheld was awesome. So fast forward to win the steam deck first came out and there was straight up handheld gaming PC options that played AAA games at a way better quality level than any of these switch ports, I was immediately intrigued. I'm still fascinated by ports of games to the switch that have no business being there. It boggles my mind that they managed to fit the Witcher 3 on that little cartridge. And honestly I played one of the DLCs on switch and quite enjoyed it. Sure it's objectively the worst way to play it, but playing handheld on the OLED wasn't the worst thing in the world either. The smaller screen compresses a lot of that downgraded visual. But obviously the ability to play that game now on a legit portable PC blows it out of the water. Even though some of those switch ports are actually pretty decent, alien isolation comes to mind. There's obviously just not going to be any comparison to these machines I have held off on buying one because I just have such an extensive switch library. I have such an extensive console library across all three platforms and I just didn't feel like starting from scratch for PC gaming. Especially since in theory within a year there should ideally be a more powerful switch coming out But this ROG was on such a sale I just couldn't pass it up. And sure enough I didn't think about it but I can just use my Game pass subscription and I really don't have to buy any new games. Instead I can portably play some games that I wish I could have in the first place, and just try out some games that I never really have yet on the Xbox. I quite like horror games portably. Playing in the dark in bed with some headphones on. So I think this is how I'm going to tackle dead space. Probably also the way that I think I'm going to finally get back into Diablo 4. I don't know what it is but there are certain games I just kind of don't have the intention span for to play on the couch, but instead find more relaxing to play when I'm chilling in bed So I'm excited to see what this thing is capable of. And it makes me wonder if I would indeed end up going with the next switch, or if maybe I will see what the next iteration of the steam deck is like instead I guess it depends on whether or not having this thing causes my switch to just sit and collect dust or not Either way it's super cool that these devices exist. 12-year-old me playing Tomb Raider on the Game boy color would have never imagined such a thing to be possible

27:25 It's really worth noting that this performance increase for ROG Ally and Legion Go over the Steam Deck is basically only possible while plugged in to a charger(like you're showing in the video), because without a charger you get like sub 1 hour battery life. Otherwise, you get more or less the same performance if you set it to a power level that the Steam Deck is operating at.

Just got the OLED Steam Deck, playing Yakuza 0 at 45FPS / 90Hz and getting like 5 hours of playtime is really nice. 👍 I'm aware that it's an older title, but the image looks crisp at high settings, no blurry pixel mishmashing like FSR is required, it can play at rock solid 90FPS as well, I just prefer to have slightly more battery life. Just commenting on this since saying 1.5 hours of battery life couldn't be farther from the truth, I'm not even talking about a 2D game here. I have an LCD deck as well, can check the expected battery life on it if you'd find it useful.

I also have a laptop that's equivalent to a ps5 (actually a fair bit stronger) and a pc with a 3090, I use each of them for different use cases. For a handheld I think battery life and the overall user experience is the most important, of course game compatibility as well, which is quite good on Linux. If this was not the case why would the Switch be that popular compared to Windows handhelds. At the end of the day it's nice having competition, it drives the market and it's up to the user to choose based on their own preferences.

In many game the Go also lose in stability (lower 1%) because of it's 16:10 ration & native portrait mode screen. Then the Ally has VRR which will make the game smoother too. Got a Legion Go, swapped it with Steam Deck OLED. Reasons 1. Battery life - I use my handheld console as a handheld console. Meaning it is being used without a charger connected to it. Legion Go's battery life is great. I wouldn't have switched if Valve didn't release the steam deck. 2. Controls - those dual trackpads & controller customization is irreplacable. Most of the games I play doesn't support a controller. The steam controls handle it very well. Meanwhile, the legion go is great in emulating the mouse but it just can't match steam's keybindings. 3. Size - before Steam Deck I am an owner of GPD windows consoles since 2016. These consoles as very portable. When steam deck launched, it took me a whole year to give in and buy a chunky device. Then legion go came with a much chunkier device. I tried it but nope! Too big to carry. 4. Steam OS - the OS was tailored for gaming. I am a windows user but it made me hate windows so much on handheld consoles to the point that it's unbearable. Maybe Legion Go 2 with its own OS? 5. Parts availability - yes, legion go sells spare parts on their website but it's mostly out of stock. Steam deck however is flooding online stored with genuine parts and third party alternatives. I don't see legion go getting that much support at all.

The Steam Deck can be easily adjusted to improve battery life by approximately 50%, with only a minimal reduction in graphics quality, often to the point where the difference is hardly noticeable in some games. One commonly overlooked factor is that raw specifications don’t tell the whole story. Optimization plays a critical role, which is why apps tend to perform more smoothly on iPhones and iPads compared to Android devices. And while I personally prefer Android, the reality remains that optimization matters significantly. In the case of the Steam Deck, it is purpose-built for Steam games, and Valve has done an exceptional job optimizing the device for this ecosystem. Despite having lower specs compared to other handheld PCs, the Steam Deck delivers a highly polished gaming experience. A key factor in this efficiency is its Linux-based SteamOS, which is far less resource-intensive than Windows. This means more of the hardware’s power is dedicated to gaming performance rather than being consumed by a bloated operating system. Valve’s continuous optimization ensures that the Steam Deck consistently punches above its weight.

It can even play infinity at 800p without stuttering and given that its screen native resolution is exactly 4 times the 800p resolution of the steam deck, the integer upscaling done with RSR is almost flawless, it takes an experienced and trained eye to differentiate a game running natively at 1600p vs 800p with RSR integer upscaling. So yeah, it can move MCC quite well.

@HeraldoisTimehn understood. I would go with an ROG Ally X, if you can. The battery life on it is fantastic. If battery life isn't a big deal, then the Legion Go is a great all around-er. If you want a console-like experience at the cost of performance (~10%), then go with the Steam Deck OLED. This one also has great battery life, but is starting to show its age when it comes to performance. Finally, thank you for your service. What would you recommend for someone that does not want to do any tinkering at all. Like simply 0. Just want to pick up, press power button and press play. Cause I work 12 hours shift. I only have maximum a hour to myself in a day. I don’t have the time or energy to go figure out or search and try problem fixing issues. I just want a handheld that simply I can pick up and play. And I am a Triple A player. Some of my game list include: cyberpunk, Hogwarts legacy, helldivers 2, Elden Ring just to name a few. Remember I want and need 0 tinkering.

What is the best to worst? Steam deck oled, rog ally and Lenovo legion go?
@arachnid_eater
@arachnid_eater 4 ай бұрын
I mean its subjective but imo: 1: Steam deck. First its cheaper, second the OS, OLED screen, and long battery are simply amazing. 2: Legion go. Its worse than the steam deck imo due to windows 11 but the screen is massive and high resolution. It also functions well as a tablet. 3: Rog ally. Easily the worst due to abysmal battery life, malfunctioning SD card slot, and small size. I'll admit, the aesthetic is probably the nicest looking out of the 3 (might be biased because i prefer white consoles tho)
