Well, it’s a handheld PC with the power of a PS4 - I don’t know what your expectations are for battery life, but it’s perfectly fine considering what it is. You’ve already said you don’t like how big it is, but to have better battery life it would need to be even bigger still. So you’re not being very reasonable. ROG Ally has worse battery life. The screen is a trade off to improve battery life and one of the reasons why its battery life is better than the ROG Ally.

Battery life: I think the Deck is still much better compared to the others, Ally and Lenovo. And with the SteamOS behind, and the optimization, and for games in the 10-15w range, it runs better. My 512 was pretty much worth it, July last year. I've put in hundreds of hours to the 4 digit range. I have to admin, in the last half year I didn't use it as much as before but I also found a great benefit. It does run dual boot Windows, and for a while windows drivers are working fine now. First for games running not great on SteamOS but I kind a like it as an internet machine, browsing etc. when plugged into the hub with a big screen. On windows the Steamdeck runs better, more fluid compared to the SteamOS desktop, which I've tried out but was not a fan. The 700 Euro was ok, (fantastic back then) a 400 Euro 64GB version is even now the best deal for your money, IMO.

There is one point which i found to ve opposite to me was the ergonomics. Because steam decks fits in your hand so well, going back to switch was painful. Yes switch is lighter but I don't game when im walking or in a crowded train so the deck felt way better for me to hold longer hours. Just a slight upgrade would easier to press back buttons as i have smaller fingers and little bit more space between dpad and joysticks for fighting games

My tip as an owner of 2 Steam Decks. Go for the cheaper models. You can upgrade the SSD for cheap and it does not void the warranty or anything. If you are into this channel then you can probably handle upgrading it with the right screwdriver for the job. Also, I find that the anti-glare screen on the 512gb model makes the screen look noticeably less sharp than the other models and doesnt really do much.

@@theviking8513Yellow, 99% of the time, means that it runs perfectly but has some minor “issues” that keep it from being flawless. Like, Skyrim is “playable” despite running perfectly, because you have to go through a launcher in order to play it. It’s literally as simple as pressing “play”, but that’s enough to keep it from being verified. Even something like the game not automatically bringing up the keyboard when needed will keep a game from being verified, even though bringing up the keyboard manually is brain dead easy. So playable really does mean it’s fully playable, not just technically so.

Playing great PC games on my breaks at work and my many commutes, when I'm downstairs away from my PC, when I'm in bed etc, it's insanely cool. The battery life is fine for me. I only play for short bursts, and have figured out how to make some mouse and keyboard games work flawlessly, like Two Point Hospital, yes it had a console port but the PC version has no controller support, but I used someone's preset and added even more precise control. Love it. In Battlebit Remastered, I have the preset that adds a circle menu on the left touch pad for the numpad selectors for your many weapons/gear slots, in Titanfall 2 I have it set to be a secondary Dpad that in certain situations is easier to reach. My Deck lasts for days when unplugged and not being used, so that’s definitely an issue with your Deck. There’s actually been a weird battery health bug that’s led people’s decks to drain faster than they should be, so maybe it’s that? I actually encountered this bug a few weeks ago and had the same issue you’re having, where the battery would just deplete rapidly, even when I wasn’t doing anything. I looked into it and managed to fix it, so maybe this will help yours too. Iirc you have to let it drain to zero, boot it into the bios by turning it back on while holding volume +, then leave it alone to continue draining completely. Once it’s completely dry and shuts down, plug it back in. If it turns on automatically, repeat the steps again. If it doesn’t turn on automatically, leave it to charge for around 6 to 8 hours. It should be fixed. To check, boot into desktop mode and click on the battery symbol in the bottom right corner. Check your battery health. If it’s around 13% then it didn’t work and you should contact Valve, but otherwise you’re in the clear!

For the battery thing, I think you might want to look into a warranty RMA. I've never had that issue, and have had mine for a little bit longer than you. Ironically the first time setup is probably the most buggiest/troublesome part with the deck for a lot of my friends/family. Doing a factory reset bricked the system for a friend the other day and they needed to reimage the deck to fix it.

I don't think that's the norm because I got my deck going in 5 mins. Just turned it on while plugged in and let it out of shipping mode entered my steam acc details and had American truck sim working in 2 hours after dl. The perplexing part was finding my way round settings fsr etc but I got it all figured out in a couple more hours. Now I enjoy it mostly with retro games on msd card. 8 or 9 hours with retro games befire charging. Amazing. The weird battery draining issue may be the device struggling to tell what it’s actual battery power is, I had this problem with my switch early on when I frequently charged it using a plug port in a car. The battery seemed to die super fast, but I noticed the battery % would change whenever I restarted the thing. After I stopped using the car plug to charge it (or at least did it rarely) then the problem eventually fixed itself. The power bank may potentially be causing this problem but that’s my theory.

@@mynameisleeyesitis if you use your brain is because he hasn’t made a video explaining the importance of them or why you need to use and have them for new pc beginners. A lot of beginners are suffering from power surges because they had no idea what to use to protect their devices. Nobody is trying to have their pc fried because of something simple not many know. So yes doesnt have to do with the video but it’s the most recent for him to check and see the idea and maybe use it for a video👍🏻
