OK, as remarkable as the Deck's performance is, there's one thing to keep in mind alright? A game like 'God of War' for example? That's *a* *windows* *game,* using *DirectX* for graphics, and designed for *desktop PCs.* And it's running fine on the Deck, which is running a *Linux OS,* translating Windows API and DirectX API calls to Linux and Vulkan API calls on the fly, and is a handheld battery powered device. So now, just imagine for me, for a moment, how *good* games could run on the Deck, if they were native Linux titles, using Vulkan, and designed in mind with a "Deck-mode" for performance to extend battery life? The battery life could double, without any sacrifice to visual quality, from that change alone. PLEASE developers, get on board with this thing.

Yes. It's a feature that Valve intended to be present at start, and it really does work well. Many reviews confirm it.

This seems like the holy grail in handheld gaming devices. The only problem is the software right now. I think I'll wait until version 2 comes out in a couple of years.

The fps drops kinda bother me, but still pretty good. Let's not forget this is a pc and as primarily a console gamer I worry about this because true next gen games are about to come and the steam deck probably wont support them like elder scrolls 6 or gta 6 to give a few.

People out here comparing the Switches size with Steam Deck calling it bad, when steam deck is so much more powerful in what it can run and how efficient it does it. And honestly who doesn't rest your switch on something after a while. It both feels uncomfortable AND is probably bad for your posture.

@fightnight142 жыл бұрын
It is bad. Switch is already big enough to carry around
@ouwle66182 жыл бұрын
@@fightnight14 i almost see them as different machines. The switch is for people who wanna play games with mobile graphics anywhere with easy carry. The steam deck is for people who want to play pc games in a hand held format with good performance. Rest it on something, no problem. And just use backpacks 🙂

I think Xbox should make a mobile device. It should have the same ergonomics as the Steam Deck but with lower power internals. Basically it would be a thin client for the Xcloud streaming service, sort of a Chrome book in handheld form. It would hit a price point that was a fraction of the Steam deck or the Switch and you would need a game pass ultimate subscription to use it.

I’ve been doing xCloud/PS Remote/Stadia/Luna/Rainway/Steam Link to an iPad 12.9. Crazy how far tech has progressed. I mean I can run xCloud and Stadia through my cars display and browser if I wanted to. Unfortunately those are pretty Wi-Fi dependent and there’s occasionally latency spikes (using Verizon in 5G uw areas 500/40 >30 ping). It’ll be pretty hard to beat the Steam Deck being able to run everything on the console itself. As cool as cloud gaming has been I usually just play my Switch when I’m out unless it’s for multiple days.

Me personally I still can't get one because of it not being available in my region for pre-order and I don't think it will be available for the next 2 or 3 years thanks in part to the reservations getting delayed. For the moment I'm considering buying one of the other PC handheld alternatives wish I think will be the GPD Win Max 2021 edition with a AMD Ryzen 7 4800U processor and a Chimera OS instalation just until Valve finally decides to make the Steam Deck in my region. I just hope it comes out in my region before the Steam Deck 2 wish I heard is already being developed.
